Central California Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
Dr. Coates was professional and highly interested in me and my particular needs. Dr. Coates is one of the finest well-known surgeons in the Central Valley area of California. His staff is empathetic and continually go out of their way for his patients. Future patients should know that this is a wonderful surgeon who may be busy at times - and the office wait is normally much longer than you would expect. Dr. Coates' office emphasizes the importance of continuing aftercare and support group attendance. As they say "Surgery is a TOOL". His office has classes on a weekly basis for any of you to attend to continue gaining knowledge and maintain your health. Dr. Coates' bedside manner and surgical competence is professional, empathetic, humorous at times and he always makes you feel so comfortable.
My initial impression of Dr Coirin was that he was knowledgeable and genuinely interested in answering my questions and helping me reach my goal of having the surgery.
I found him very informative and professional. When I attended the informational meeting prior to choosing a surgeon, he was the surgeon to discuss the surgical procedure and answer any questions that people had. He has worked with patients with my spinal condition and has great success in treating them. I also find great comfort in knowing he has not lost any patients that he has done surgery on... not even after surgery.
Dr. Coirin works with Dr. Coates whom is also a wonderful surgeon. Their office staff is VERY knowledgeable and very very friendly. Dr. Coates also has not lost any patients with this surgery and they have performed thousands of surgeries. I think they make a great team of surgeons for the WLS center. They do emphasize the risks involved and go over anything that concerns me. I had already done a lot of my research so I had minimal questions for Dr. Coirin.
I will learn more though once I get my final surgery approval and go to the dietician and learn the specifics of aftercare. I have already learned about some of it but I know I have more to go over once my surgery date is set.
I went to the seminar and was able to get in for a consult appointment the next day. The staff was very pleasant, and I had dealt with them previously, to find out what things I needed so I could speed up the process. Sandy was very helpful on the phone, and told me I needed to get my psych evaluation done, and possibly another sleep study (although I found out later that mine was only two years' ago and was sufficient).
I met with Dr. Coirin, who had done my previous cholecystectomy some 20+ years' before. I was one of his first laparoscopic cases he had done, and I liked him then. He was so patient and honest. He did not make me feel rushed and gave me plenty of opportunity for questions. He is a very caring man, and I liked the idea that he met with his patients for the consult, and not his PA.
I am currently dealing with Hilary to get insurance approval. I am now told that my insurance is one of the most difficult to get approved (and I work for the hospital!!!). She is awesome, and makes sure her phone calls are returned and is great!
I saw him the first time at the seminar and had already picked Dr. Coirin for my dr. but he was on vacation and after hearing Dr. Coates give the seminar I really liked him so I decided to go with him. My consultation was with his asst. so that's all I know for now. Met him right before my surgery. Seemed very nice. Didn't leave any bruising and everything went very smooth. No nausea or throwing up after surgery so I am very happy with him. Thanks DR. Coates.
I found Dr Coirin to be very supportive and caring. He seems very commited to the work he does and not demeaning in any way. He is VERY skilled as a surgeon and I knew I was in good hands. My biggest issue is the conflict in information between the hospital support program, the NP/PA and the MD. I can ask one question and get several answers. The diet here is all protein until 75% of excess body weight loss---VERY difficult and very impractical to follow. Conflicting information about nutritional supplements also. I would still trust him again.
