I believe he's a very competent doctor who's been doing this surgery for the past 15 years and has an excellent sucess rate. I feel as though he is always there for me if I need him. With all his duties he still finds time to attend our support group once a month..Very impressive.His staff is just as wonderful as he is. I applaud them all. Dr. Coirin has a very structured aftercare program. He also went over all the possible risks and side effects of the surgery before performing the surgery. I would rate this surgeon as superior and I can do nothing but rate him an A+ in all areas. Of course these are just my personal thoughts and feeling of this particular surgeon.

I attended the seminar on April 6th and both Dr. Coirin and Dr. Coates were there. It was very informative and intense.
I chose Dr. Coirin. He seemed to have the qualities I am looking for in a surgeons. He is intelligent and experienced. It also helps that there mortality rate is low.

Officially met Dr Coates on the day of surgery. I like him personally and appreciate that the volume of surgeries he performs gives him great skill. I had no complications and felt great upon waking up in the recovery room.

His office staff, however, is another story. Because he is so busy, the staff cannot keep up with the paperwork and essential communication is either flawed or absent. I guess it all comes down to what is important to you. For me the surgeon's skill was the main thing. If you can deal with the frequent aggravation from his staff and be prepared to spend considerable time finding the hole that information fell through, he's your man.

Allow me to state explicity that the foregoing is merely my humble, unprepossessing personal opinion of my experieces with this office to date. Your mileage may differ.

Went to seminar.. AWSOME!.. I meet with surgeon on March 25 YEAH.. Im sure I've left something out still left to do.. but .. I'm moving forward again and more positively.. :) UPdate after meeting him personally.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;OLD Surgeon :::::::::::::

Showed up early. Was afraid of getting lost. Dr. Patti was very nice compared to Dr. Ostroff however It seems that communication is not good. Dr. Patti had NONE of my paperwork from Dr. Ostroffs office and I gave them mine and they were supposed to be given back and weren't have to have them maied back now and then Dr. Patti want another Cardiology report completed by someone in SF 2hours away. I understand and want it to be safe but I don't want this other test hes wanting to do. So will update when I meet him again on May 6, 2003. .. Things changed meeting with a cardiologist here in my area on May 17 and then back to Dr. Patti on May 27, 03... So wish me luck.

Dr Coates is wonderful! Very kind - puts you right at ease. My surgery went well - had some complications due to scar tissue from past surgeries - but was still able to have lap procedure. The only problem is his office staff. When you go to your scheduled appointments, be prepared to sit in the waiting room for AT LEAST 45 minutes past your scheduled appointment time, and then you'll be seen by a physician's assistant, not Dr Coates. I am now being seen by my primary care physician again - I don';t have time to sit that long each time I have an appointment.

Dr. Coirin was exceptional from the moment we had our first meeting. He was always very thorough and never made you feel like you were just part of his own "assembly line" of patients. He took very care of you, not only physically, ofcourse, but mentally and emotionally also. I was only 22 when I had my surgery, about 3 yrs ago, and EXTREMELY scared and completely nervous. He made sure that you were put at ease, not only on your post-op visit, but long before in the beginning of this grateful journey. All my family was welcomed in the office to ask any question or voice and concern that they may have. All his answers were complete 210%. There wasn't ever any "beating around the bush" or acting as if they werent important because they werent the patient. The office staff as a whole made you feel like you were just as important as the patient before and after. If ever I was left in the waiting room it never went unacknowledged. Apologies were gladly given. What always surprised me was how they remembered all the names of everyone. At first I thought I was special, remembering my name (smile). Then I noticed that it was patients (post-op and pre-op) that walked in the office after me and so on. Wonderful surge of appreciation and comfort was overwhelming. While I was in the hopsital after the procedure, I was offered either a keepsake of a teddybear or a pillow. I chose the pillow. All the nurses came and signed it and Dr. Coirin was one of the first. This was one of his amny visits into my room. He emphasized and made sure I was hearing and understanding all the aftercare instructions. All my worries and concerns, he, seemingly, made his own.

My first impression of Dr. Coates was a good one. He immediately puts you at ease with his friendly personality. He is so knowledgeable, you can't help but trust him with your life. He is a down to earth person and very open and honest about the importance of your life. His staff has been very informative and they get back to you in a timely manner. Dr. Coates has assured me that aftercare is of utmost importance to him and his staff, they have a well written program that includes months of follow-up. I feel very secure with Dr. Coates and his staff taking care of me.

At this time I would have to give him a rating of 10.

In my opinion surgical competence is a little more important than bedside manner, however, bedside manner makes a huge difference. If communication is below par then progress and success could be hindered.

I met Dr. Coirin at his seminar and really enjoying the information he provided there.

I talked with him over the phone many times when I was a dialysis RN. He was always so nice and valued the RN's opinion. When I found out that he is now doing bariatric surgery, I was elated. I would trust him with my life. His office staff has been very nice and helpful. I have only seen Dr. Coates at the orientation. I don't know of any dislikes about him yet. Future patients should know he is a very good man.
He emphasizes aftercare quite a huge deal. Your life depends on it. Yes he does. He addressed the surgical risks at the orientation and also in the manual that is given to all patients. I would rate him as an excellent surgeon overall.

Both surgical competence & bedside manner are great.
