Central California Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
My first Impression Of Dr. Coirin was good. Staff is freindly. YOu should have all your pysch evals and nutrition eval before you go it will save you alot of time trust me... After you get approved they schedule you for labs and ultrasound then a surgery date to follow..They give you a binder you need to read it a written test will be given to see if you understand the information..he does have a support group started ...havent been to one since i go to wowsalsa group..ill let you no more about him after second preop interview with him and after surgery... so far good out of five star service i give him and his staff ***1/2 stars....
My first impression was good at a conference that I attended. But over time in order to get to him you have to go through his assistant, who in my opinion was very flakey. She talks nicely, but every conversation she contradicted herself and denied she said what she said last time I spoke with her. I got a feeling like she was very forgetful. And you have to go through her to speak or get an appiontment with the Dr. She called my house and instructed me to go see a doctor, providing ME with the name address, and phone number. After making and going to the doctors appt., I called 4 weeks later wondering what's next. She asked me why I went to the doctors! I WAS FLOORED, and started wondering what was really her problem!!!!!Then A conversation later she is dancing to a new beat?????CONFUSING! But things got better and it all got resolved. She must have a very heavy case load that is all on her shoulders. She is strongly liked by many other people. All I knew is this surgery was going to be a new life for me and I REFUSE to let anyone stand in my way. So, at a support group that I had been attending, I started gathering info and opinions about the doctors staff. only to find out some were very please and some had experiences like me. But bottom line , I
had time and work-up invested in this office and ONLY FOR MY LIFE JOURNEY I decided to st it will work out.In all honesty, I do tell my friends of my experience and would tell them of another local doctor that they can choose for themselves, but would still give them my doctors info also. Please note that Dr.Coirin is very nice, I like him. He is new at this procedure (gastric bypass), but has been a general surgeon in my town for a time. I do notice that people I meet that have had there surgery other places and or doctors, we all have been given different advice when it comes to food. And the RN that schools us is new to this(bariatric care)although, she has been a well traveled and experienced nurse for some time. But every person who has had surgery,we tripp out how different dietary instructions we have gotten???I do have to give my doctor the credit that there are some very pleased patients. Live and learn. But as I am writing this I am only 6 DAYS post-op!HOORAY FOR ME!!!I still can't believe it is finally done. Now the real person I am in the inside, Is finding her way to the outsde of my body. And yes, I would do it all again if your wondering. When I want something I get determined until I meet my goal no matter what. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
I haven't had a great deal of contact with my surgeon as of yet. But in all of my dealings with him, he shows a high level of compassion for his patients. He also wants to make sure that you are well informed and motivated to carry out this procedure. His office staff is very kind and helpful. The only draw back is they are quite busy at this time and would probably benefit from increasing the staff. Dr. Coirin places a major emphasis on aftercare. He believes that it is essential for the best possible outcome post surgery. I feel surical competence and good bedside manner are critical to the outcome of this procedure.
Well here I'm again well i have been a little on edge with Dr Coirins office cause when I made my appt about 3 weeks and they were going to send my the packet of paper top have filled out before my appt on March 12th and i never got them. I called the office a 2nd time and they said they would send them again and nothing.. So today 02-13-03 I called yet again and ask what was going on they said the papers were sent out however I asked them if they could just fax them to me.. They were really nice and did so, I'm feeling a little better now that I have what I need, before my appt.. I did Check with my ins company and the dr and the hosiptal and in my network (thank god) so it looks like if every thing gos well my ins will pay out 90% of the surgery (United Health Care). Please pray for me.
I met Dr Coates on Wed Jan 22, 2003. I had begun this process while living in NC and was really ready to argue my side. However, Dr Coates is a true advocate for this surgery and the benefits that it can provide. He said "you dont have to convince me. I can see that you are ready and have done your footwork." His staff is very considerate and available.
Dr.Antonio Coirin M.D. met with my husband and I for a consultation regarding bariatric surgery. He does the RNY/LAP procedure. His office is located in Manteca, California and very easy to find. We found his staff to be polite and attentive. We were seen promptly.
Dr. Coirin entered the exam room greeting us with a warm hello and a strong handshake.
He carried with him a large board with a diagrahm of a RNY digestive system. He pulled up his chair close to ours, and began explaining the surgery and answering all of our questions.(And we had plenty!)He gave us all the time we needed, and never made us feel rushed.
We feel very comfortable with Dr.Coirin, and have decided to have him do my RNY surgery.
We will share more about our experience with Dr. Coirin post-operatively.

I am now a post-op patient of Dr. Coirin's.
The first time meeting him during my consultation, he explained RNY is a tool,
sustained weight loss would be up to me.
Just before I was wheeled into the operating room, he came to me and asked if I was alright. I said yes. I also said Thank You for this surgery. His reply: "It is a tool. You will do well." He has been honest and so gentle. I will be proud to call him my Doctor for years to come.
I have found the entire process of weight loss surgery with Dr. Coirin to be a positive experience.
Dr. Coirin made a good impression on me, as well as his associate Dr. Coates. Dr. Coirin is very good at explaining the procedures and answering any questions you might have.
My Mom sometimes works in surgery with him, not for bariatric surgeries, but in other cases which he most often does laprascopically. She says he is highly skilled and very thorough and diligent in his work. He takes his time in an effort to ensure everything goes right.
His office staff was friendly and helpful.
Once the surgery is scheduled the office sends you your "Owners Manual" which instructs you on how to do things post surgery.
He explained the risks involved with a surgery like this and also uses a diagram to point out areas most likely to encounter any problems and explains what they do to prevent them.
I would rate him an 8 overall. He is very competent surgically and I'll let you know about the bedside manner later.
My consultation was January 17, 2003. I was a
little disappointed with the overall appointment.
Dr. Coates was VERY busy! His waiting room was
packed. Everyone signing in was stating they
were there to see Dr. Coates. I waited over an
hour for my consult. Every consult I have ever
been too was in the doctor's regular office.
The lady took me in a small exam room and I waited
for a few more minutes and then met Dr. Coates for
the first time. He was very nice, very professional.
My one and only complaint is that I just didn't
have enough time with him. He did go over the
procedure and the risks. We did not get a chance
to talk about the aftercare aspect. I was only
in there for about 10 minutes. I was expecting
at least 30-40 minutes. I have heard nothing but
good things about him. So I am comfortable with him,
just a little disappointed that he was too busy
to really sit down with me and go over the many
questions I had. To be fair, he did ask me if I
had any other questions and I said no. It was
obvious he was rushed and I didn't feel
comfortable taking up any more time.
