Central California Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
It's been over 2 yrs. now and I haven't seen Dr. Coirin since march, 2005, however, I remember him like it was yesterday, literally. He was so generous with his knowledge and insight of the W.L. surgeries offered and the pros and cons of each. My husband and I attended a conference in Manteca in July of 2003. It was handled very well. We both felt good about what we learned. Dr. Coirin graciously answered ea. question afterward without hesitation. Over the course of 18 mos. he emphasized the need to stay with the program and strictly adhere to exercise, vitamins, protien first, water, etc. I was always greeted by a friendly and supportive staff at his office. Karen and Sonja took care of any insurance queries I may have had. They were busy, yes, but, never had a discouraging or impatient attitude with me. Dr. Coirin is the most sincere physician I've ever known. His thoroughness and kindness is to be commended. Thank you, Dr. Coirin for giving me the tools to choose a more fulfilling life. .......These are my personal feelings and observations. Oh, I do remember the camera was broken once and I didn't have an updated picture that day. That's my negative comment.
I only was able to actually MEET my surgeon Dr. Coates on 3 occasions... the First and longest was at a pre-op meeting for a group of WLS patients... the Second time was at his office at my FIRST schedualed meeting with him... and my third time was just moments before my surgery itself and that time was just very briefly... all times he was very cordual and friendly and very open and answered all of my questions honestly and directly.
The rest of his office staff are very pleasent and very hard working people, his insurance coordinator person there works very hard and does a great job at setting things up and getting all the neccessary paper work completed on time and all schedualed appointments with the hospital done on time... she is a dear one! I can not prasie her enough!
Theres alot of preop and aftercare with Dr.Coates with classes and and meetings and emphasize on diet that goes along with his surgerys so be prepared for that.
I had to attend many classes both pre-op and a few post op as well and theres a big book to read as well all about the "DIET PLAN" you must follow afterwords too and its very structured as to what you may eat and what you may not eat and in what stages you can eat what in as well...
and YES he does state over and over again what the risks are in this surgery to you, as well as what the possible benifits are to you as well.....But also he tells you that there are no guarentees either...alot is left up to the patient to follow the diet plan to make the most of his or her surgery.
Dr. Coates has a great bedside manner about him, and overall a very good surgical competence about him...he knows what he does and does what he knows very well.
Overall I would rate Dr Coates as a VERY good surgeon and I have no complaints.
I really liked Dr. Coirin, he is very good at explaining things. At the last moment I also got the silastic(?) band put on my pouch which he always has one in his pocket to explain it. I felt like i was in the best of hands. His office is also very nice and willing to help in any way. They always seem to remember your name even wen you call.
I cannot say enough about Dr. Coirin. He is one of the most caring and engaged doctors I have ever met. I have had a long hard struggle so far and everytime I am stuck and I can't get past this office person or that call center jerk or I just don't know what to do next, I run into him in a support meeting (imagine that a Dr. who GOES to every support meeting OMG he isn't for real I swear) and he compassionately assists me. Gives me advice and tells me who in his office to contact and how to deal with them AND AND.. he actually tells that person about my situation so that they are not completely stupid when I call.... Le Sigh... I love Dr. Coirin. If Dr. Coirin does anything wrong, I have yet to see it. He is my new hero.
Dr. Coates' and his staff have been wonderful. I went through some really hard times after my surgery, and they helped me through it mentally and phyiscally. Dianne David and Sonja are so very special, each time I went in for a check up, they offer moral support and reassured me that I would get through this, and everything would be fine. Thank you Doctor Coates and your staff for having such a gracious bedside manner.
I met Dr. Coates at the seminar but when I went to the office I didnt get to see him. I met with his PA who was helpful and his staff. With all the trouble with Blue Cross PPO the office has been awesome in keeping me informed about what is happening and the possibilites. They have always answered all of my question and I would recommend them to anyone. HOPEFULLY he will be my life saving doctor also!
I Haven't met Dr. Coates yet. At the seminar I met Dr. Coirin, and he is nice also so I first signed up with him but I found out that my insurance would only cover me with Dr. Coates, which is fine coz I've read numerous accounts of his happy patients and how skilled he is, so I'm comfortable with him as my surgeon. I saw the PA (Ledema) at my first consult, and Ledema was very nice and my husband and I asked her all the questions we could think of and she was pleasant about answering everything. All the other office staff members are also very polite and courteous when you call by phone or see them in the office. They took care of everything about the insurance and they are busy but were never too busy to help me whenever I called. Sometimes you had to call..if you are like me, impatient and want to know things instead of waiting :) and I think they told me I will meet Dr. Coates at the pre-op consult. So I can update this once I do meet him ..so overall, I'm very happy with Dr. Coates office and his staff. I'd recommend them for sure !

I met Dr. Coates on Aug. 29 2005, the day of my surgery and he is so very caring, concerned, shows an interest in you as a patient, answered all my questions, I like how he knows so much that I feel very confident in him...I'm so glad he is my doctor. I'd recommend him to ANYONE who is lucky enough to have him on their insurance plan.
I have not actually met with Dr. Coates except for seeing him an informational seminar. I have been scheduled for an appointment 3 times now but have not seen him. The first time I called and asked for an appointment with Dr. Coates and was scheduled for approximately 6 weeks later. I went in, waited for 40 minutes and when I was called back I was told they couldn't do anything that day because since had had previous WLS I needed to be seen by the doctor. I said I had asked to see him but they told me they always scheduled first appointments with a PA (although they didn't tell me this when I made the appointment). They said the doctor wasn't in that day and scheduled me for 3 weeks later.
The day before my next scheduled appointment the office called me to reschedule saying the doctor would not be in the next day and then was going out of town. They reschedule me again for 4 weeks later.
Again I went in as scheduled. After signing in and waiting for 45 minutes the receptionist called me to the window and told me the doctor would not see me until I obatained an x-ray the doctor required of anyone who had previous WLS. When I adked why I had not been told of this before she simly said it was their mistake and that I would have to be rescheduled AGAIN!
Not only that, but she would not even reschedule me until I actually got the x-ray, and then I would not get any priority but have to go to the end of the waiting list again.
So, I will NOT be rescheduling with that office EVER again. I have found another doctor with much more experience and a competent and efficient staff who I am now scheduled to see. Obviously I do not reccomend them to anyone.
Of course this was only my own experience and that was only with the office staff, I never actually met with the doctor.
