Vanderbilt Medical Center Hospital
The staff all except for one nurse was excellent. I don't know if she was overworked or what the problem was but she did not respond well to my needs. The others were great!! The room was nice and large with up to date equipment. It could have been a little cleaner but overall it was good. When I say cleaner I mean the floors needed to be stripped and waxed and the baseboards need to be cleaned well. Also the halls were a little cluttered which made it not easy to walk in the halls.
My overall experience was very good. The nurses were courteous, the staff good. They took very good care of me and even checked up to see if my mother needed anything.....the only problem was there was a shortage of rooms the day I had surgery so I spent the night in the day surgery center.....it was quieter than most hospitals but still hard to sleep........
I felt like the doctors, interns, and medical residents were caring, concerned, very helpful, and interested in my well-being and comfort. The nursing staff left a lot to be desired in most cases. I felt as if asking for something was a big "bother" to them. I apologized several times for asking for pain medicine, but after being in pain for 45 minutes with no nurse, I didn't have anything to apologize for.
Over all, the doctors, the OR staff, and the office workers are excellant. The nursing staff was obviously over-worked and stretched to the maximum. I can't blame them for being stressed, but it did affect my experience.
My nurses at this hospital were terrible. There were a few good ones, but I had to wait four hours at times for some anti-nausea medicine...that I needed! In order to get anyone to come, I had to ring the buzzer 4 and 5 times before I would get a response, especially at night. I have been in other hospitals before, and was checked constantly - not so this time. My visitors had to hunt people down in order for me to get pain medication...I was soooo glad to go home!
