Summa Health System Hospital
I felt Dr. Dan was incredible on our first meeting and am finishing up the preliminary tests and exams and will be having info submitted to insurance. The only thing I would have to say that would be slightly negative is that I do not know my results from my EGD or my abdominal ultrasound. But I guess no news is good news.
He explained their entire program with me and how I would be an active part in the mission to loose weight. I was overall very excited to get started and am now in a CURB group for those who tend to binge eat. After this month, that is finished and hopefully I will continue with my quest. I thank God for leading me to this great organization and know He will be by my side throughout my journey.
I attended a Bariatric seminar at Summa's Akron City Hospital and Dr. Dan was the speaker. What I liked about him was the fact that he had rules. If you were a smoker, he was not going to operate on you. He said that if you were not interested in stopping the No. 1 killer, smoking -- he was not going to help you stop the No. 2 killer, obesity. This showed me that he just wouldn't operate on anyone ... he would make sure that you would be a good candidate for the surgery. He also informed us of his success rate which showed me that he confident in his abilities. Dr. Dan also discussed the program and that Summa's Akron City Hospital was a Bariatric Center of Excellence. Since my surgery, I have had regular check-up appointments and blood work. The staff at Summa's Akron City Hospital have been wonderful and make themselves available.
Dr. Dan is great! The entire practice is filled with wonderful people who do their jobs seamlessly. From day 1, I have been guided through the process with no problems. Scheduling is handled so smoothly I never had to worry about fitting everything in on time. Dr. Dan has always taken time to answer any questions and explain every procedure to me. Today I had my Jackson-Pratt drain removed (which I was a little nervous about)...NO PROBLEM. There was no part of the removal that could be considered painful...it almost tickled. The practice is a Center Of Excellence at Summa Health Care. There is an aftercare program in place which includes follow-up visits at 1, 3, 6, 12 and 18 months and yearly after that. There are monthly support group meetings as well. I feel that Dr. Dan has treated me like an actual person and not just another "case". In my experience, surgeons tend to be a little stand-offish, but I never got that feeling from Dr. Dan. His last words at any appointment are always,"Call if you have any questions."
I had my surgery (RNY-lap) on September 7, 2010. It was truly a blessing, everything went perfect. I didn't have any complications or anything. Everything I feared about having the surgery never happened. When I first met Dr. Dan he was professional and very friendly, he knew what he was talking about and gave me alot of information and did not sugar coat anything.I could tell he had a real love for his work.I knew in my heart GOD chose Dr. Dan to perform my surgery. He is very skillful, understanding and compassionate. His surgical competence and bedside manner are wonderful, he also makes sure you understand the importance of aftercare. The office staff is very nice and supportive, I always felt very comfortable with everyone. The hospital stay was EXCELLENT. Everyone from the nurses to the person that takes you to get your barium swallow was so kind to me. They really do care about your well-being. For anyone who is considering having weight loss surgery I would recommended Dr. Dan and the entire Summa Bariatric Care Program.
My first impression of the entire staff at the doctors was "wow their all friendly!" I constantly call them with questions and they are always so nice and willing to help. Dr. Dan seemed really nice, he got straight to the point told me what he thought was a good fit for me with wls and asked me questions, what i thought how i felt. Its still early but so far i absolutely love them
Now that I am 8 months post op I realize just how great the staff in Dr. Dan's office really are. They thought of everything. I have had no major issues at all. I have had support anytime I have needed it. I have followed their instructions to the letter and have greatly benefitted. I highly recommend Dr Dan and his staff.
Dr. DAn is great, he realy cares about his patients, I would recommend him to everyone. He has saved my life and will propably my leg. He treats you like a true friend , he is there for you and your family, he cares. If you need something done to lose weight please, please see him. He is not only helping me but helping my wife lose weight, we are getting our lives back.
At first I thought that he didn't want to treat me. However, found out that he wanted to make sure that I was able to have the surgery , mentally and physically. He takes his time to make sure that you are in the best condition for the surgery.
He addresses all risks with you.
His office staff is great , they are there for you, not for the money.
He has great bedside manner, great after surgery care and is very surgical competent.
He is alwasy talking to my wife to make sure that I am getting the best aftercare, also his staff is talking to her.

When I first met the Bariatric Team I felt reassured that I was in safe hands. As I wasn't particularly at the higher end of obesity scale, I was still OBESE and unhealthy, approx 230lbs due to poor eating habits, and high doses of long term steroids. Initially Dr 'Z' wasn't sure if I was heavy enough, but because of kidney probs and other health issues it was decided to go ahead after my pre-op testing which was extremely thorough. Including a Cadiac Catheterization to check my heart out! The team were very friendly open honest and supportive and non-judgemental, which I liked. Dr Z has a fabulous SOH but when he's got his game on, surgery day he's extremely serious, and there is no lighthearted banter, it's down to business, which I liked very much. Yes he thoroughly addressed the risks explaining each time I saw him and asking if I had any questions or concerns. The team includied a dietician, which is essential and she was very informative and no question was a 'silly' one! Even gave out tasters, prior to our surgeries of course! I was also given a personal folder which was full of information and I found enormously helpful, with things like contact numbers and full of advice, tracker tables, and daily food/liquid/water intake. there in black and white, which I found fantastic! I would have no problem in highly recommending Dr Zografakis and his team! Post surgical support is just as good regular labs, and tweaking of suppliments as we are all different and no two patients are the same which Dr Z always re-iterated.
I would highly recommend Dr Zografakis and his team they are in my opinion the best in the business!

Dr. Dan is truly a caring surgeon. When you meet with him prior to surgery his time is limited but he is very professional and skilled. When I had my surgery everything when very smoothly. A week later I suffered a complication. I had to spend seven days in the hospital. Dr. Dan came to see me everyday(including Sunday) even though the complication was not really related to the gastric bypass. He was trully concerned about my well being. Now I am focused on losing weight. I would recommend Dr. Dan to anyone considering this surgery. He and the entire Bariatric Center are wonderful. They are caring and knowledgable. The support they give is wonderful.
My first impression of Dr. Dan was wow, he looks pretty young. But as continued through the preparation for my surgery I became more and more assured that Dr. Dan is more than experienced enough to do my surgery and do it well. And that he did. My surgery was a complete success.
The support staff was great. Very helpful, very personable, and very informed. They continue to encourage me to attend the support groups (which I do)
I have to say that I thought my surgery date would never be set. It felt like I waited for months. However, Dr. Dan was not going to let me go through this surgery unprepared and the time that I felt that I was waiting, actually was time that I was learning. Learning how to change unhealthy habits, how to move my body again, and learn about risks and how to avoid them.
This was certainly one of the best decision I have made for my life. And I would encourage anyone who needs this surgery to see Dr. Dan. He truly is a caring, and skilled surgeon.
