Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Center for Weight Management at St. Francis Hospital
My partner and family had to do most things for me. Yes, I know nurses are overworked but when you have to send a family member out to fetch someone, anyone, even an aide and come back empty-handed?!? Then when I went to take a shower, the shower chair there wouldn't have supported an anorexic Nicole Rickie, let alone a bariatric patient. I picked it up and gave the wobbly chair to my mom to ask the nurses for an appropriate chair and they never returned. I had to shower standing up and hold onto my partner so I wouldn't fall! Absurd!!!!!!! Would never go back!
Update: had to go the the ER this week and the ER and all staff were fantastic, on-the-ball and overall excellent.
The nurses at the hospital were not compassionate and didn't have an understanding of what obese people go through. After leaving the recovery room I was sent back to the room I started from. I asked to use the bathroom and nobody helped me get there.
The nurse went to get my famiy so they could come back. My family heard me in the bathroom getting sick. My mom asked on of the nurses if I was ok and she said Oh ya she's fine she has a nurse in there with her. After about 10 minutes of my family listening to my get sick my mom walked into the bathroom to find me in there by myelf getting sick all over the floor. There was even nurses talking outside of the bathroom saying "Boy I wish she would hurry up!"
I did had one set of nurses (at night) who were wonderful. They helped me undo my leg compression cufs to use the restroom and you could tell that they cared.
The other nurses that I had, not one of them smiled at me and I felt that I was a burden to them. I felt that everytime I had to press the button to call one of them I was bothering them. It was awful! One of the nurses kept hurting me and I told her that she was hurting me so then she said well here you do it then. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone.
The first thing I really enjoyed was the pianist playing music. That was soothing. The waiting room is roomy and comfortable. The preop nurses were wonderful as well as all the nurses that assisted me on the ward. The evening nurse was a little out of balance. She seemed to be overworked. The other shift nurses were great.
Everyone at the hospital was super friendly and accomodating. They made feel safe and relaxed.
