Scripps Mercy Hospital (COE) Hospital
Like any other hospital, there are good nurses and bad nurses. I had a couple on Friday and Saturday, like Wendy and Douglas, that were great. I also had some nurses that seemed just to want to sit around the nurses station and do absolutely nothing. On Sunday, June 6th, I waited 40 min. for pain medication, even though it was time to have it and I had asked for it. It just seemed that the nurse couldn't be bothered. The Sunday nurses SUCKED!!!
I was almost glad that I didn't have a private room. During the 5 days I was there, I got to meet 2 others who'd had WLS that I could talk to. The only thing about the surgical floor we were on was that it covered all surgeries, not just WLS, so I was lucky, because I could have had someone who was having heart surgery or whatever, as my roommate. The ladies who shared my room were nice people, and their guests were not too loud or rude.(I actually had just one roommate, but she left and another replaced her partway through my stay. The rooms are semi-private; 2 beds)RE parking. On the day of pre-op & day of surgery the staff will validate your parking. The day you get out, if you show your hospital bracelet to the parking staff, they'll waive your parking fee. I got to come home because I live less than 2hours away from the hospital, otherwise I would have had to stay in town at a hotel until my first post-op visit.
Scripps Mercy has an excellent ICU department, however in the regular wards response time is terrible. I had serious complications with this surgery, when I finally was moved to the 5th floor, it would take the nurses there at lease 15 minutes to respond to the intercom. Then it would take another half hour to 45 minutes for a nurse to actually show up if they remembered at all. I had bad "bathroom accidents" because of the slow response time and I couldn't get up to go myself, because of all the machines I was on. They seemed very understaffed, and the night crew was terrible.
