Very quiet, knowledgable, humble, and a gentleman.
Office staff very helpful.
Didn't find anything about him I didn't like.
He's very strict about the patients meeting the criteria for weight loss.
Emphasizes a great deal on aftercare and continuing with support from the nutritionist and psychologist regarless of whether you are having a problem or not.
He has you sign a paper with the risks spelled out for you and gives you plenty of time to ask questions and makes sure you understand.
Surgical competence and bedside manner are both very important.
I am a nurse by profession and I have not met a physician like him before. When I told him how much he has helped me make the change in my life, he very humbly told me that I was the one making the change and that he only gave me the tool.

I first met Dr. Pohl when my husband went for his visit for gastric bypass. I found him to be personable, friendly, caring, and most of all....blunt and right to the point. He listens with intensity and caring which I don't think is easy to find these days. His office staff is very busy but always friendly and courteous. I liked him very much and my opinion hasn't changed at all. My husbands aftercare was terrific as Dr. Pohl always returned his call. He also stresses Walking...Walking....Walking and more walking. When it came to the risks of the surgery Dr. Pohl was Point Blank, no holds barred, truthful all the way which showed me respect both for myself as well as himself. I just think Dr. Pohl should get a AAA+ rating. I think that his bedside manner is great...a very caring man and it shows to his patients and it's obvious that he is highly competent. I just think the world of him. Noone is perfect but Dr. Pohl does his best and please keep in mind that these are only my opinions for the care he gave to my husband and myself in our journey. I cannot speak for anyone else and their situations.

My first impression of Dr. Pohl was that he was very knowledgeable and sensitive to patient's needs. He went over every aspect of the surgery (including complications and side effects) at the weight loss surgery seminar. The office staff are all very helpful and took care of the insurance approval process for me. Overall great experience with Dr. Pohl thus far.

I was disappointed at the attention I rec'd from the day nursing staff on the Maxi-care unit. The night nurses (thank you Barry!) were great, very accomodating. No one offered to get me up and walking during the day, or any other help for that matter. It was obvious that they were understaffed, but I didn't think it was appropriate that I had little assistance without asking for it. I did not have much chance to evaluate the staff on the 4th floor, but the room away from the window was dreadfully small, stuffy and depressing.

I felt comfortable with Dr Pohl right away. I first met him at his seminar, then I saw him a few times at the Roger Williams support group. Dr Pohl is very up front and is very concerned about every patient. I was unsure of the band or bypass and he suggested that my entire family attend his seminar to help, and it did. I am glad that he made me take the extra time because this is a life changing decision.

I am very comfortable and pleased with Dr Pohl. He is a professional and respectful physician. He is soft spoken, yet honest. He is kind and often shares a chuckle. he is very serious about this surgery and the modifications it entails both pre operatively and post op. He made sure time and time again all of my questions were answered, and even when I thought my questions were stupid, he was even more encouraged that I asked questions and he answered them fully.
He made certain to make sure I knew all the risks involved and the most important component is that this is a lifestyle change.
The office wait can be long because he has so many patients, but it is worth it. I would rate him as an excellent surgeon and physician and highly recommend Dr Pohl.

I stayed in Maxi-care all 4 nights. Most of the staff was great but so loud all night long.

I first met Dr. Pohl at his seminar. He was soft spoken but also had a sense of humor. I credit him for saving my life. Because of all his thorough pre-op tests my tumor was found early. My whole experience with him was great. I would recommend him to anybody!
