Roger Williams Medical Center Bariatrics Hospital
Dr. Pohl was thorough and clear in his explanation of the surgery-it's benefits and its risks. He was pleasant and willing to answer any question posed by me or by my nervous husband. The staff was very helpful and friendly. He stressed the need for continued aftercare and commitment to lifestyle changes. I was impressed by Dr. Pohl's attention to the resolution of issues and getting insurance approval quickly. He seems to be genuinely interested in the well being of his patients.
Dr. Pohl seems to be very knowledgable about the procedure, and specializes in advanced Laproscopic surgery. He has performed 13 other RNY Lap's, and has not had any with leakages, so that is a good sign.
He is very structured as to the process, I have to see a Dietician, Psychologist as well as have all the pre-testing done.
His office staff was alot of fun. They were very pleasant and didn't treat me like an outcast, as other doctor's offices had. They are making all the follow up appointments for me, and following up with the insurance company, so that is a huge help. I was worried about finding the right doctors and scheduling the appointments but they take care of that. They were very kind people, and use comic relief to ease the nervous patient (that would be me!).
Dr. Pohl is very emphatic about after care, and explaining the risks involved. He did not sugar coat anything, and told me exactly what to expect and what the consequences of the surgery could be.
Dr Pohl is very very nice. I was referred to him by Dr Candace Dyer (read below), because he does the Lap RNY. He is very thorough and I felt very comfortable with him. I mentioned that I was very concerned about an undetected leak after the surgery and he does about 3 leak tests... 2 during surgery and one after! Cant ask for more than that! His staff is wonderful also! Very polite, and very kind! I highly recommend him so far!!
Dr Dyer is an absolute doll!! She spent a very long time with me, answered all of my questions, and I never felt rushed. She currently just does the open RNY, but asked if I would be interested in having the LAP RNY done. She would not be the chief surgeon, but would serve as the assist, so she can further her knowledge of LAP RNY and ultimately do them herself in the future! I was very pleased about that! So of course I agreed! No surgery date has been set yet, but it should be within 3-5 weeks. The office staff was wonderful, and I look forward to seeing them all throughout my recovery!
Dr. Pohl is the best! Not only did my surgery go perfectly, I had little pain. Didn't need pain meds in the hospital or after at home. He came to see me every morning in the hospital to check on me. He answered any questions my husband or I had and tailored my post-op care to me and my situation. I highly recommend him!
His staff were very nice and helpful whenever I dealt with them as well.
