Roger Williams Medical Center Bariatrics Hospital
Dr. Dieter Pohl is the man! He did what he does best. I cannot express just how elated I am with the outcome of the surgery that he performed on me. He has teamed up with the best hospital (Roger Williams) for before and after care of gastric bypass surgery. The staff is so caring and efficient. They really made my stay much more comfortable then it could have been. Before the surgery they helped me with being scared, nervous, and anxious by talking to me and making me feel that I was in excellent hands. I cannot be more happier with my choice of a surgeon. Thank you for giving me my life back Dr. Pohl! :)
Dr. Pohl is a wonderful Doc. I would recommend him to anyone...I am not very fond of his office staff. A couple of his secretarys need some more training on bedside manners, and office procedures. I do like Carol. There is nothing about Dr. Pohl that I don't like. His assistant Ruth is a wonderful person. But I have not met his other assistants. I have talked to Jeremy on the phone and he was really nice to deal with also. Dr. Pohl is just very understanding and makes you very comfortable to discuss all kinds of things with. Dr. Pohl addressed ALL risks of the surgery...MORE then once. He really makes sure you understand that what you are doing is not a QUICK FIX. On a scale of 1-10. I would give him a 10. He is just a wonderful Dr who has helped me change my life.

This is the first time I've ever been to this hospital in my life...When I went to the Seminar. I was not impressed because it does look like an older hospital. However, went back for pre testing and seen somemore of it and was not so bad. The people in admin were really nice to me. The nurses were so nice and spoke to you and answered questions. For pre admissions they were really nice and tried calming my nervous etc. so I was really happy about that. I haven't had the surgery yet but I will post that when it comes up.
Dr. Pohl is such an amazing man. His bedside manner can't be touched by anyone. I've had many doctors, and I'd be the first to say he's the best I've met. I'd refer anyone, even my closest family, to him. He is very sincere, but doesn't give you the run-around. I appreciate that.
The surgical personnel was excellent and I felt very safe in their care. The floor staff on Center 4 was less impressive, although I did come in contact with a few good nurses (the CNA's were very good). I waited an average of 90 minutes each day for pain medication that was scheduled and often waited too long for the prn meds as well. I actually was up walking on the first night and did my own bathing etc. so I required little else but my roommate finally had to ask to be bathed after lunch...no one had offered her help. I did not feel that the unit was in any way understaffed but their was little attention from nurses. One or two were quite good (and seemed to be "regular" staff on the floor. At least four of the nurses who did care for me stated that they were "floats" and did not know what was needed. Only one nurse actually spoke to me about my surgery and offered advice on day of discharge. Also not the cleanest hospital I ever saw. I will say that the staff was very sensitive to weight issues and I did not feel uncomfortable about that.
