I had very kind nurses at times, at times i had rude and rough nurses, had to share a room so no privacy, but overall the hospital is okay but could use a little modern and maybe cleaner touch.

Had my first consultation with Dr. Pohl on May 30th, 2002. He's had lots of experience with laprascopic surgery and said he's only had to open once, which I found encouraging. He said he's done about 70 RNYs. My first impression was that he was all business and not the most affable doctor I've ever talked to but that was much less important to me than that he knows what he's doing. Since I've gotten to know him better, I think he's a very nice man, just a little on the quiet side, but very caring nonetheless. I've talked to other patients of his and they all loved him and felt they were given great care. They mentioned that he really has the respect of the nurses at the hospital he works out of. I feel like I'm in good hands.

His office staff were very nice. Seemed like they were very familiar with dealing with the insurance companies. Jeanette, who handles that, said that Blue Cross is the best company to deal with for WLS, but she's not familiar with Anthem of Connecticut, my Blue Cross administrator.

I thought the maxi care unit nurses were insensitive to an elderly patient. The 4th floor nurses were great. Basically the hospital is old but the care was great.

Dr. Pohl was very good. Calm and right to the point, but with compassion.

Dr Pohl is a wonderful surgeon. He has changed my life. He is very straight forward and honest and wants to help his patients. His office staff is wonderful. I have no complaints about him or the office at all. I strongly recommend him to ANYONE looking for a surgeon. His bedside manner was wonderful. He took great care of me while in the hospital. He personally called my husband after the surgery was over to inform him how I was and how the surgery went. Simply magnificent!!!!
Thanks Dr Pohl!!!

My first impression of Dr Pohl was that he was a very knowledgable, sympathetic doctor. He wasn't overbearing and gave me all the information necessary to help me make my decision. His office staff did seem slightly understaffed for the amount of patients in the practice but all of them were quite helpful.

Future patients of Dr. Pohl should know that he is VERY dedicated. I had to call 2 times for general information since my surgery and he has called me back within 10 minutes with all of the information I needed. Explaining everything. He also attends all weight loss surgery support group meetings.

He addressed all risks of surgery and went over everything in full.

These are my general impressions of Dr. Pohl.

My only complaint (and biggest!) was that after my surgery I was put in the recovery room for 9 hours!!! due to the fact there were no rooms or beds available on a regular floor. They told me they were overcrowded. Because of this I couldn't get up and walk, use the bathroom, no TV or telephone. Also, when you are in recovery you are not allowed visitors. This disturbed me greatly knowing I was in recovery and my wife had to wait to see me in the waiting room for that exorbidant amount of time.

I LIKE DR POHL WE IS VERY STRIGHT FORWARD AND TO THE POINT, HE TELLS YOU ALL ABOUT THE RISKS AT THE FIRST MEETING WITH HIM. THE STAFF IN HIS OFFICE IS GREAT AND VERY HELPFUL.

Dr. Pohl came across as a caring doctor. Very informative. He knew exactly what he was talking about and was well prepared for any and all questions. His office staff is the greatest..especially Jannette. Thanks Jannette! They are all very kind and caring. I had called another doctor early on and found that this doctors staff was rude and uncaring toward obese patients. Dr. Pohl seems to actually care about obesity. Not all doctors do. One in particular said that he didn't like doing wls. No thank you, I don't need anyone like him. I got nothing but great feelings about Dr. Pohl. I would rather have a doc that knows what he is doing than one that can "entertain" me. Dr. Pohl is very upfront about the risks of surgery. He held nothing back.

I felt that the care in the maxi-care unit was better than the regular unit. The regular unit was not bad but not better than maxi-care.
