Norton Suburban Hospital
In general my experience was horrible. The surgeon I had is very skilled and I am pleased with his work, however the hospital needs to see that these nurses are universally trained..ie sending me to a test the day after surgery with damgling tubing and the cardiac monitor dangling. An Aide disconnected the extras and taped me up before Itripped on the hanging mass. I am not aware if the following is usual ocurrances for dismissal...I was sent home with a temp of 100 and spitting up bloody phlem.
When I arrived the staff I met was VERY caring & GREAT. when surgery was over the staff I had was VERY rushed and FORGOT WAY TOO MUCH !!! I did have my husband with me or my mother most of the time...thank God,or I'm not sure how well it would have been. There were 2 nurses that really cared.Thank God for Sam the nurse's aid she was a huge help. They also gave me the wrong food to eat before I was discharged. Nobody new what the hell was going on around there!!!
Staff was great. I have a few complaints though. Throughout the day, messages for staff would be broadcast over intercom and this kept waking me up. Another gripe was that about 2 or 3 in the morning another patient was brought into the room and my husband had to get out of the other bed they had allowed him to sleep in. There were plenty of totally empty rooms. This caused problems because my roommate wouldn't answer her phone and this was irritating! She also left her pee-catcher in the toilet for someone else (me) to remove before I could go pee. Maybe it would have been better if my roomie was another WLS patient.
