Hackensack University Medical Center Hospital
My surgery was at 10:30 am and I wasn't put into my room until 7:30 later that night. Although I was out of it, my husband was upset and ended up going home until they called him hours later. Apparently that isn't a common thing that happens but we just got lucky that day. Otherwise, everything else went beautifully.
The recovery room was a disaster! I came out of surgery at 10:30am 2.12.03, and was left in my dirty gown until 12:30 am 2.13.03- 14 hrs later. I was not given 3 of my morphine shots according to the nurse who finally changed me and cleaned me up. When I was finally given a shot, it was 12:30 and I was moved to a room at 12:45. I had the gastric bypass, and was not allow to vomit, well I did. I cannot say if that is what caused my bleeding and needing 4 units of blood in the following days, but I believe it was. Also, on my floor, one Nurses Aide was very mean to me, telling me to clean myself because I was bleeding and she had to change my diaper every 10 to 15 minutes. She gave me a wet rag and told me to do it myself. When I was finally allowed to stand up and go to the bathroom, she would not help me back into my bed, and told me to bend over and put the leg wraps on myself. Her name was Angie, and I have written a letter to the administrator and patient advocate. She was also caught by my sister and nephew sleeping in the day room. No one has the right to treat anyone else the way she treated me. If you cannot be kind to people who are at your mercy, than find another field.
