Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital
I will be honest that I had reservations about this facility after all I had read on this site. However, due to the fact that I had to have and emergency procedure done just days before my scheduled rny I found this hospital to be quite comfortable. My OR nurses were the best. They even came to check on me later in the day and told me to hand in there and they'd stop by and see me the next week for my rny. To top it off I even had a card from all of the people who worked with me that eventful day. That is truly above the call of duty. I felt very cared for and safe.
The nurse call button did not work.
1out of 5 meals were what my doctor ordered then had to wait in excess of 3 hours for lunch one day because they had served the wrong diet. My room mate had to wait for her pain meds they haad run out. Her daughter stayed over with her and they never even offered her a pillow or a glass of water. I went 24 hours without a pitcher of water, they forgot. The air conditioning was out the first night then freezing from then on. on a scale of 1-10 I would give nursing a 5.
My nurses were all wonderful, the best was Jason who had experience attending Dr. Wongsa's patients, he was excellent and helped my tremendously. The hospital is noisey and I didn't get much rest. In fact they moved my roommate in my room at 2:30 in the morning, so I was fully awake at this time the first night after my surgery. The beds and pillows were not as comfortable as other hospitals that I have stayed in before, usually hospital beds are comfortable but the mattresses were covered with plastic and the sheets were made out of tee shirt material so they slipped off the beds easily. My recommendation to other patients is to bring you own pillows, mine was also plastic covered small and hard and again the pillow case kept coming off. The nursing staff was the best that I have had any hospital, in fact, the Director of Nursing came by my room and introduced herself and said that if I needed anything or had any problem please notify her. I felt okay with this hospital, but would not want an extended stay here.
Day of surgery nurses were absolutely wonderful. Could not possibly have asked for more. Next day, they were far less attentive and slower to respond to needs or requests. Only other problem was with foods. My roommate and I had the same surgery and were both supposed to be having 1/2 ounce of liquids every half hour. No sugar. They brought chicken broth, a sweet slushy drink with sugar and sugared jello one morning for BREAKFAST! Still, I was pleased with my stay there and felt the staff was very kind and understanding and the care was overall good to excellent.
I had a roomy who had a very very very bad time w/ everything. I almost felt guilty I had no complications! I had to help her alot during the 1st nite because the nurses wouldn't come fast enough. When i first got to my room i was in extreme pain for about 10 min. (seemed like an eternitly!) My husband had to go twice to get a nurse for pain meds. My son (8) was crying for me. he had not ever seen me in pain. When I think about it I cry. All in all it was not a very good experience. Thank God I did not have to stay 1 day longer!!!
