Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital
I am a nursing administrator, so I may be more critical than most patients. The staff in pre-op testing, radiology, and endoscopy were very friendly and competent. I was also impressed with the OR staff. The nurses on the unit were a different story. The crowded semi-private rooms were dangerous for obese patients to ambulate to the bathroom. The staffing levels seemed inadequate. I waited over an hour several times for pain meds post-op. One nurse did not know that heparin injections need to be given sub-Q. When I was discharged, I had the ultimate insult, when the clueless Filipino nurse showed up in my room with a pediatric wheelchair that was about 12 inches wide! She had difficulty understanding English when I tried to explain that I weighed 260 pounds and would not fit in that chair. Better orientation and sensitivity training are in order at this institution!
it sucked, no one was ever around, It felt like I was there all alone, the nurses were so rude, when I was just awaking from surg and thats the only time I really ever saw them, I mean They did come in but it was like maybe twice a day unless I was just really drugged up, maybe i dont remember right and am exaggerating which im sure I am, but they were not very friendly there, of course with the exception of the pre op nurses and 1 post of nurse who was an oriental male and was very nice, but then again I might of just been on drugs, I do know that I had to walk out because they supposedly did not have a "big person" wheelchair.
