Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital
I felt the nurses and nurses aides were very caring. But if you have to rate the staff at the desk when you buzz from your bedside for assistance i would give them a poor rating. Each time I would buzz for help to go to the restroom they would leave me waiting over 20 minutes with me having to buzz again to remind them I was waiting for help. I only needed help because of my legs being strapped in cuffs to prevent blood clots.
We assumed that if we picked a good surgeon, he'd choose a good hospital. That proved generally true. CFH is not a state-of-the-art hospital, but it is adequate and remodeling. It is very understaffed and the nurses aren't attentive to details. I'd recommend you have a family member or friend stay with you the day after surgery.
I forgot what my symtoms were but I was given a pepsi. UMM No! The nurse don't read the charts and just act on impulse which in any case is dangerous. My mom and I felt like we had to keep saying no I can't have that or do that because I'm a bariatric patient. If you happen to get this hospital make sure someone is with you at all times.
Had to recover on the cardiac ward versus the bariatric ward. They failed to bring me two meals. When I did get one, they actually brought me full fledged ICE CREAM! I had no privacy. My roommate was 90 and called the nurses every 5 minutes....I was very quiet and tried to do my own stuff, but one of the monitors kept beeping and I tried to get a nurse for 15 minutes. I feel they probably thought it was the other lady and didn't feel compelled to come in and check. If I was able to recover on the bariatric unit, I think it would have been much better. I was not really impressed with all of the staff...especially one in the recovery unit on the bariatric ward....she was very not empathetic to anything at all. There's much negative that I can say, but Dee, the bariatric nurse was wonderful. Rely on her heavily!
