TriStar Centennial Medical Center Hospital
My surgeon was Dr. Douglas Olsen at Centenial Medical Center in Nashville. He's awesome! He actually pioneered several laproscopic procedures, and is one of the highest ranked laproscopic surgeons in the country. It surprises me that he isn't on the list.
Their office staff is wonderful. Seems like I've known them forever.
Dr. Olsen is very stiff, and very serious. This is probably my least favorite thing about him, but I know he is always looking out for my best interest. He is very conservative.
His emphasis on aftercare is very strong. I've seen him every 2 weeks since surger, up to my 2 month point, where I'll see him monthly up to 6 months, then every 3 months until a year. I'll then see him every 6 months up to 2 years.
I would rate him as EXCELLENT. The only surgeon I'd want.
His surgical competence is definately better than his bedside manner. His bedside manner isn't bad, it just isn't the "bubbliest".
I only met Dr.Dyer at the WLS seminar, he seemed very nice and answered alot of questions that I had. I am looking forward to a more formal meeting with him in November.
Dr.Dyer is the most fantastic doctor I have ever met. He really makes you feal special and takes the time to really talk to you, not like other doctors who rush you in and out. And the nurses there are as wonderful as he is. You are lucky to have him as your surgeon.
---Pre-op---
First impression: Very positive! He is very to the point. He made sure I understood the procedure and the dramatic lifestyle change that is forthcoming. He also addresses all the risks associated with WLS, surgical and post-operative. We discussed finacials and insurance coverage.
He is part of a group called "The Institute for the Treatment of Obesity". Debbie Thompson, RN, is the program director and is herself a bariatric success story! They truly approch obesity as a disease, not a lifestyle. They also have a comprehensive after-care program to assist the patient with post-operative issues and support. Dr. Dyer's fee includes one year of follow-up visits. He also stresses the importance of using the support group provided by the center, both pre-op as well as post-op.

Dr. Olsen was very personable and he made sure I was informed
about the surgery. His staff is very professional and also seemed
genuinely helpful. I feel very confident in his hands!
I've had some minor complications and Dr. Olsen and his staff have
been so great to me! They always took me right in and have really
been in close contact with my progress. They are very personable
and caring. I couldn't have a better surgeon!
I went to a very informative seminar at Centennial Medical Center in October, 2001. My insurance company (United Healthcare - Saturn) approved the procedure within a week. I had to wait three months for my initial consult with Dr Olsen. It seemed like a long time - but eventually the day of my appointment arrived.
The first time I met with Dr. Olsen he explained every aspect of the procedures in detail to make sure I understood the surgery and associated risks. He even drew me pictures of the procedure and wrote down the risks to make sure I understood what I was getting myself into.
Dr. Olsen, his staff and Centennial Medical Center are excellent. Dr. Olsen performed my surgery (laparoscopic gastric bypass) on March 18, 2002. The staff at the hospital took very good care of me. My biggest complaint while I was in the hospital and during the first few weeks after I came home was a backache. A couple of weeks after the surgery, my family doctor diagnosed me with a bladder infection - once treated, the backache went away.
Dr. Olsen continues to check my progress through follow-up visits. He talks to me about my diet and exercise and stresses the importance of drinking enough water and going to the support groups. He is really concerned about my health and weight loss progress and he wants to make sure I get all the benefit I can from the surgery.
I'm thankful every day because I was able to have the surgery and because Dr. Olsen was my surgeon. I don't think I could have been in better hands.
My first impression of Dr.Dyer was excellant. I had heard so many good things about him. Informative and compassion are his best points. As most of you know a little compassion from a doctor when you are overweight can be hard to find. The first thing he told me will stay with me always, he said you have not failed, diets fail. The office staff follows up and is very caring. When I missed my blood tests with Dr. Rogers they called just to make sure I was alright. They speak to you about risks, aftercare and follow up. Overall he is a an angel in my book , guided by God with his special talents to give us all a better quality of life.
DR. DYER IS A GREAT DOCTOR. MY SURGERY WENT FINE. I WAS A LITTLE SICK AFTERWARDS BUT HE WORKED WITH ME AND GOT ME FEELING BETTER. HIS OFFICE STAFF WAS GREAT TOO. DR DYER IS VERY SERIOUS ABOUT HIS JOB HE TELLS YOU EVERYTHING UPFRONT O THAT YOU WILL KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. THE AFTERCARE WAS GREAT HE IS REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT AFTERCARE. I WOULD RATE HIM ON A SCALE OF 1-10 HE WOULD GET A 10 HES GREAT. ALL OF HIS QUALITIES ARE GREAT.
I met Dr Olsen on June 6 2002...My first impression was a confident extermely knowledgable health care provider that impressed me with his manners and his credentials. I mean this man was in no hurry whatsoever ! I was in shock!!! He took time to answer all my questions after explaining everything in detail to me. No question was too trivial for him to answer.
This man did not talk over your head like so many do , he made it very easy to understand the proceeduer and all the complications that can come from it. In other words he gave me " The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly"!!
That made me even more impressed with him.
I checked his credentials from online as well as I could, then made numerous calls, and was totally confident I found the right man. I am even more confident after our visit last week, the final dance before the GRAND BALL !
I would recommend this PROFESSIONAL to anyone interested in the best care they can acquire..and you know I can find nothing that I was not comfortable with in this DR. .
This is just my opinion, but thats the one that counts this time..
Dr. Olsen was the doctor who did the semminar I attended. During the semminar I found him to be informative but very dry and unpersonal. When I had my consult he again went over everything completely and made sure this was the correct decision for me. He was very polite and much more personable, he even joked at times with me. His office staff was very polite as well, always helpful and willing to answer all and any questions I had. The aftercare is very organized. They give a complete notebook with diet restrictions and guidelines to follow throughout the first year. They also provide cards and phone numbers for everyone possible to answer any questions that may arise outside of the regular and frequent follow up visits.
