Brigham and Women's Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Hospital
I cannot say enough about this hospital and it's staff. I did have a couple of bumps in the road. One, I was in recovery much longer than necessary because the hospital was full and they didn't have a room for me until the evening of my surgery. This made it difficult for my husband to see me. But the recovery staff was wonderful. They moved me to a quiet corner and brought in my husband to sit with me until my room was ready. Second, my roomate the first night was horrible, screeming for the nurse every hour or so through the night. I got no sleep the night of my surgery. The next morning I asked to be moved and the staff moved heaven and earth to get me into another room and from there it was smooth sailing. My nurses were incredible, very knowledgable in weightloss surgery aftercare, and so caring and encouraging. I cannot recommend this hospital enough!
Dr. T is absolutely the best! He is very personable and easy to talk to, not cold or stand-offish like some doctors. He answered all my questions and concerns and made me feel very comfortable with his abilities and my choice to have weightloss surgery.rnrnHe also screens his patients and only does the surgery if you are as committed to success as you need to be to come through the proceedure well and be successfull in your weightloss. He is realistic and thorough.rnrnHe is a very capable and talented surgeon, easy to talk to and very willing to offer as much information and guidance as needed.rnrnHe's a nice guy, too. I owe him a lot!
After discharge, when I expressed my concerns and complaints to B&W's patient care (customer service) representative, I was met with excuses rather than 'thank you for your input, we'll look into that'. My complaints were NOT with my surgeon, just much of the nursing and aide staff, and the residents on my case.
Dr. Shikora is wonderful. My first impression of him was he was very serious about his work. My impression has not changed. The staff and office is very busy but what doctors office is not busy. I think what future patients should know about Dr Shikora is that he is very committed to this program and expects you to be.His emphasis on the aftercare program is HUGE!! The key to success is aftercare, aftercare, aftercare!! go to monthly meetings will increase your chances of long term success. He went over all the risks and made sure you understood them. My overall rate is A+++. His bedside manners was fantastic,The staff at Tufts(was NEMC) was supportive and very compassionate. A+ to the staff. HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOTH DOCTOR AND HOSPITAL
Dr. Shikora was wonderful. He took a lot of time in the initial consult to discuss all risks and benefits of the procedure. He confirmed that I understood everything and encouraged questions. rnrnOn the day of the surgery, he greeted me warmly and told me they were right on schedule (according to the nurses, he is always on schedule :).rnrnHe made sure to visit me several times after the procedure was complete. He assured me that everything went fine and, again took time to make sure he answered any questions that I had. rnrnThe staff was always very friendly and helpful, the surgeon has a wonderful bedside manner and I would highly recommend him to anyone considering a lap-band or RNY procedure.rn
I was very pleased from the second I arrived at the hospital, being as nervous as I was and got all turned around, I was walked right to where I was to go by one of the employees. I was taken in promptly at Admitting and explained everything in detail by their office. Then I was brought right donw to Pre-op where Melissa took great care in trying to make me relax unitl Erin the anesthesiologist was able to get to me and Dee the nurse held my hand as I cried and told me everything would be alright. I was in and out of surgery withouth incident and woke up to basically a cheering squad that was telling me how well I did and patting me on the shoulder- that made a big difference and put a smile on my face no matter how drugged up I was! I was brought upstairs where I know I was very well taken care of but don;t remember too much. I know the nurses were right there and talking to me contuously positive. When I really woke up the next day I was met by I parade on wide-eyed residents who were also very positive with there explanations abotu what would be going on the on the near future for me. The nurses that I recall most and hold dear to my hear- Monica and Lindsey who made sure I had evetrything I needed and held my hand when I got upset for no reason. So i basically was crying coming in because I was so nervous and crying as I was leaving becuase my experience was so positive and I wanted to tkae them home with me. I was very pleased about everything that I experienced at the Brigham and Womens' Hospital. I would not hesitate to encourage friends and family or even strangers to go to your hospital with the utmost confidence!
