My first impression of Dr. Shikora was a great one! He was very warm, caring and understanding. He did not go too fast when explaining the surgery process and made sure I understood everything.
My impression only changed for the better over time. The day of surgery he greeted me with a big smile and he stopped by my room 3 times post surgery.
The office staff at Tufts is AMAZING. Louise is awesome - Meghan is wonderful and Dr. Greenberg is great!
There is nothing I don't like about him.
Future patients should know that they are in the BEST of hands when Dr. Shikora is their surgeon. He is the Chief of Bariatric & General Surgery for Tufts and is the BEST in his field.
He emphasizes aftercare like you wouldn't believe - afterall it is THE most important part of this surgery journey.
Yes, the aftercare program is very structured. You have lifelong follow up appts. with your nutritionist, surgeon, psychologist and medical doctor.
Yes, Dr. Shikora fully explained all surgery risks.
I would rate Dr. Shikora a 100 out of 10!
Dr. Shikora's surgical competence is out of this world and his bedside manner is too.

Could have been more attentive. Upon discharge I was told I could leave without a wheelchair or hospital escort as transport may take too long to bring a wheelchair. As it was quite a walk I decided to wait for wheelchair to be delivered. RN then asked if my husband wouldnt mine wheeling me out as they were short staffed (which he did).I thought this was a little odd.
Also, walked alone morning after surgery and immediately after being taken off narcotic drip-was told to just be careful not to get lost as floor could be a bit confusing. This experience was nothing like my past surgery experience at this hospital. Last surgery exp was Excellent on all counts-different doc, different unrelated surgery.

Dr. Shikora was very professional, thorough, warm and caring in our initial consult. He took the time to explain the procedure and answer all our questions. His office staff has always made me feel that my questions deserved a thoughtful, reassuring response. Everyone at the Weight and Wellness Center at Tufts Medical Center is top notch! They are concerned about my total well-being, and I have experienced only the best medical, psychological and nutritional care since I met them in the April 2009. Their program is truly a holistic one that emphasizes the fact that this upcoming surgery is simply a tool towards becoming a healthier, more active adult, and emphasizes the importance of the after-care and follow-up. I have attended some of their monthly support group meetings pre-op and plan to continue post operatively. I am so priveleged to have this chance for a new beginning!

very good bedside manner, took his time going over both lap band and gastric bypass with me and didn't rush my questions.

I had surgery 09/15/2009... I was up that day, the nursing staff was the best! My surgeon and his program were fantastic and top rate...

I left the hospital two days later walking with moderate activity...

Four days later I felt healed, and was mowing my lawns, and tending my horses...

The program worked, the staff at Tufts Hospital in Boston are wonderful, caring and there to get you UP and running to a new life with NO exceptions...

The nurses of the Brigham have no match, they were excellent to me and made me feel like a VIP.
The only thing distastefully about the hospital are the labor staff that seem to hang out at the elevators on a given floor, talking on cell phone, other labor members or just hanging out(scrweing off). It gives off a feel of riff raff or a gang presence, im shocked that a hosptial of this calibur puts up with it.

I like Dr.Vernon. She is the type of person who takes her time with you. She listen to what I had to say and explained everything out for you. Dr. Vernon Staff is also wonderful the staff calls and make all the arrangement you will need they try really hard to combine appointments they know your time is valuable too.
