Blodgett Campus Hospital
I never had a good chance to rest because of the staff always getting my vital signs, giving shots, etc, but the staff was excellent and I understand it is their job. My husband had to commute 200 miles/day because he had a hard time navigating Grand Rapids, could not find the Hospitality House.
The staff was relatively pleasant and helpful. I had a dreadful roommate that made a lot of noise and would watch tv and talk on the phone whenever I tried to rest. The staff helped with this as much as possible. I will say this roommate was all on her own with no family support and had some complications. I had a ton of family support and work feverishly to get out of there as quick as possible.
I could not have gotten better treatment anywhere. I was a queen.
The only negative comments that I have were that on the day after surgery there was a mix-up with what I was told I was gettting for pain and what I was really getting. I was terribly nauseated the night of surgery so they backed me off the morphine pump. By the next morning I was feeling better so they gave me an anti-inflammatory medicine in my IV. I asked if I was still getting an hourly dose of morphine but not using the button for extra and the nurse told me "Yes". By 6:0PM I was in unbearable pain and started crying when my husband got there. My husband asked the nurse how much morphine I was getting and she replied "Well- none, you haven't pushed the button all day". I was so mad but also in terrible pain. It had been 6 hours since my last dose of pain medicine. My only other complaint was the fact that I didn't receive any teaching for anything, not even how to put my binder on correctly. I think they thought that because I was a nurse maybe I already knew. The staff otherwise was very nice and helped me with everything that I asked for.
