It is so funny how this process works, I have been working the process for almost nine months and finally on September 2, 2008 met Dr. Hoehn face to face! I had viewed the video on The Bariatric Center of Kansas City site a few times. Oh, you know the video of an actual surgery. I also had seen Dr. Hoehn at the seminar back in January so I kinda felt like I had met him before. But in the doctors office he really look young (means his education is up to date, right?) but he was a professional in every way. On a lighter note he is pretty easy on the eyes too! LOL. I was so excited just to be there for the first time that I really couldn't think of any questions at the time. I am so sure that I made the right choice in choosing my doctor. His surgery stats are most impressive. My impression of Dr. Hoehn continues to grow everyday. His office staff is very friendly and make you feel like you are one of the gang from the first meeting. Dr. Hoehn has a great program, it is very structured from the very first seminar to after care. The only thing that caught my attention is that my paperwork had someone else's test of sorts in it because on 2 seperate occasions there was confusion about which surgery I wanted. Dr. Hoehn laughed and assured me they would not do the wrong surgery. LOL. I initially chose the Bariatric Center because they are a Center of Excellence which says tons all by itself. I will meet with Dr. Hoehn again October 20th and will update at that time. rnProgress Updates: rn rnrnrn
I've only been to his seminar and I really like him. He seems very understanding of all the concerns and issues of those who were attending. His staff was very friendly and I felt very comfortable there. rnrnHe was honest and upfront about the benefits and risks of each type of surgery he performs. He said that the has never had any leakage with a bypass and has never had a patient have complications that lead to death. rnrnI am looking forward to meeting him one on one.
I am scheduled to have an RNY with Dr Hoehn on Monday 1/19/09. The time that I have spent with him so far I have really enjoyed, he seems to really listen and focus on you when you are with him. The process that you have to go through to get to him is very difficult and very frustrating. I wish that the communication process was a lot better, If you are going through this process, TRY EMAIL, the email address is in the first packet they give you. The phone will just frustrate you to death.
My first impression of Dr Hoehn was that this man knows his stuff. The only way my impression changed of him was the fact that my original thoughts were confirmed. I was amazed at the kindness of his office staff. Everyone I encountered acted like I had known them a long time and they all really put me at ease. I wouldn't say there was a thing that I personally didn't like about Dr Hoehn. He is very direct and to the point which maybe a downside for some people. The whole KC Bariatric Center program stresses the importance of aftercare. They make sure you are aware of the risks and benefits. They also make sure that you know that you are cared about. They do have support groups, therapy sessions and an open door policy in the details of aftercare. I haven't had to call the office for any aftercare concerns yet so I don't know how their turn around time is on responding to questions. I would rate him as an excellent choice for surgical competence and bedside manner. These thoughts are my personal experience but what I have had so far is good.
Dr, Hoehn did an awesome job. When i first met him he appeared to be shy but genuine. Dr. Hoehn is quick during his visit but thats just the way i like it. He was willing to answer any questions if need be but i was ready to move on to the surgery date. After surgery he visited in the am. He sprinkled a little hope and encouragement and then went on his merry way. I met Dr. Hoehns PA as well and he was just as great. Very down to earth with a fantastic smile. I had a really good experience with SMMC as well. The nurse that took care of me the first day was amazing and the shifts followed were above average as well. A thanks to all who made this life changing experience smooth.
I met with Dr. Hoehn yesterday and I found him to be very nice. He listened to my questions and my answers to his. He was non judgemental and very understanding and positive. The risks and aftercare were addressed many times throughout the phases before I sat down with him. He knows his stuff and really cares.rnrnWhen I first met him at the Shawnee Mission Seminar I knew I wanted him to be my surgeon because he projected confidence in himself and his skills as well as a real concern for helping people.rnrnThe whole team at Shawnee Mission Bariatric, I've found to be wonderfuly supportive, knowledgable and care for the whole patient. Before and Aftercare.
