Wow! What could I say to justify how well Dr. Bolar and his staff have treated me. I had my first appointment with Dr. Bolar in November. He went over the procedure and possible side effects and complications that I could have after the surgery. He was very kind and patient. I felt welcomed by his staff and know that I have made the RIGHT decision on choosing my surgeon. I couldn't have asked for anyone better.
I had never had any experience with surgery prior to meeting Dr. Bolar, he had straightforward eye-contact and was very reassuring. We covered all the details of the surgery: the proceedure the risks etc. My most outstanding memory is when I began to cry talking about how hard it had been to be 'me' over the years, the struggles with weight loss and the misery of failure. He said to me. "we will improve the quality of your life". I knew then and there he was concerned about all of me. He understood the pain I felt and he knew he could help me.
I was sad to see him go when he left for KY but he had helped me find a new life and I will always be grateful and will not forget him.
First of all he was very caring, personable, and very professional. He seemed very concerned about you as a person and goes to great lengths to make you feel comfortable. The office staff was very friendly and helpful and thorough. There was nothing that I disliked about him. Other patients should know that they are not in this walk alone and there is "somebody out that that cares."
The after care was very well covered, not only by the Doctor but by the therapist that he send all of his patients to prior to the surgery and afterwards if you need it. The aftercare is more important because that is something that you have to live with the rest of your life. I am not sure yet about the aftercare program. I haven't gotten that far yet...I still have some more tests to do and I am sure that they will talk to me more aboaut that. Not only did Dr. Bolar tell me about the risks, but the internist and therapist also updated me on the risks. Of course, I worked in a hospital for 7 years, so I know what risks are involved...also my daughter works at the hospital that I am going to and she confides in me a lot about the procedures and aftercare. I rate him very highly and so does everyone that has come in contact with him. Both surgical competence and bedside manner are very important to me. Hope this has helped someone.
Very knowledgeable and likeable. The impression has not changed. His office staff was friendly and professional with the exception of one person who is no longer there. He's a very busy doctor and did seem a bit rushed as they all are. He likes people who have done their homework either on this or other internet sites. Aftercare involves several appointments over scheduled intervals but he is available for consultation at any time for questions, problems or consultations. He advised of the risks of the surgery but also said that I was at less than average risk because of having previously undergone anasthesia at a heavy weight. I would give him an A+. When he operated for the gastric bypass he found several hernias and strictures and did those surgeries as well, even though I found out later that my *** insurance company would barely compensate him for the additional surgeries. Definitely better in surgical competence. Not bad in bedside manner, but as I said he did seem rushed.
I liked Dr. Bolar a lot. Even though he knew I'd seen another surgeon and had researched the RNY thoroughly, he explained everything to me anyway (and by the way, I did learn some new stuff from him). He made sure I understood the risks of the surgery. I'd give Dr. Bolar a 10 (rating). The office staff was very helpful.
I had surgery on 10/31/01 and did fine with the actual surgery, but the morphine for pain caused me some problems. I had a hematoma under my incision that got infected later but is now well. Dr. Bolar was so kind and helpful when I'd call him or go to the office. He was a very calming influence; just what I needed. I had no trouble getting into see him when I needed.
He is very competent and has a great bedside manner. It's been 2 months now since my surgery and I am oh so glad I had it done. Dr. Bolar has a support group meeting once a month that I really enjoy and go to when I can (it's a 2 1/2 hour drive).
He is a very kind person and thorough surgeon. My impression of him didn't change. His office staff is also very helpful. He is very popular and this fact cuts down ( a little) his open appointments. He will answer all of your questions. He is very thorough in his aftercare instructions and appointments. He gives out a booklet with aftercare instructions and you have to have regular appointments with him. He explained the risks of surgery as being the same as any other surgery. He is an excellent and trustworthy surgeon and doctor. He had both surgical competence and bedside manner.
WOW!! What a nice and Humble man!! He was wonderful at my initial consultation. He was very thorough, explaining the risks and explained the procedure very well. His staff is so nice and personable. Being a nurse, I have run into my share of different doctors and I have to say, Dr. Bolar seems to be very kind and it would be an honor to be his patient ( and,for that matter, his nurse!)
I chose Dr. Bolar because of the positive things that I read about him in others profiles. I have only met with him once, but during that visit he answered many questions I had concerns about and put those things to ease in my mind, although he made it very clear that with any surgery there is an understandable amount of risk. Since meeting with him and he taking an hour to speak with me and my husband and draw pictures and whatever else it took to make sure I was sure this is what I wanted to do,
I left there with all the confidence in the world that he was very familiar with what he is doing and has been successful with his previous patients. He told me he has done over 1300 of these surgeries and to date none of these died due to the surgery.

My opinion of Dr. Bolar has not changed. He is definitely a unique man and doctor. He put me at ease the first time I saw him and he continues to care as much now as he did the first time I saw him. Carol at Dr. Bolar
office has been wonderful as well.
Dr. Bolar is a nice man. He keeps up with his office staff and seems to care about his patients. He is very professional and a skilled surgeon. I feel he is the best surgeon for me. He is very caring and detailed oriented. Many of his patients speak well of him and I can see why.
His office staff is great. Catherine is very patient. She has been putting up with my case for over a year. She is trying hard to get me approved.
I am so excited and ready to have this surgery. I trust Dr. Bolar and his office staff is great!!
Nov. 7-called to talk to Catherine today to get my preop dates, told she doesn't work there anymore. YIKS!! She has been so helpful to me and got me approval. I will miss her. And I am scared something will go wrong with me getting the surgery. Isn't that terrible? I hope things will go forward. Was told someone would call back. I hope so.
Nov. 15- Went to have preops today. Met Carol, she had everything in order and explained a lot to me. She was very helpful and nice. So, everything is done, just waiting for next week.
December 6-went for my 2 week post op. I just love Dr. Bolar. he is really nice and knows what he is doing. He has a great sense of humor. I am so glad I had him for my surgeon. I really like Carol too. She is friendly and professional. She has been great. I think Dr. bolar has got it all together!!!!!!!!
