I first met Dr. Floyd at the WLS seminar. I was able to speak with him for several minutes after the seminar. Deciding to have the surgery was not an issue, as I had tried to get approved once before but loss my insurance before I could get approval.

I was thrilled with Dr. Floyd's bedside manner. He is really easy going, but at the same time he will be completely honest with you. He doesn't pull any punches and lets you know ahead of time the seriousness of this decision. Some people may find this directness to be a little uncaring, but I found it very refreshing.

The office staff is superb. There is not enough room here for me to say how great Kenny is at his job. If he got a raise for every compliment I have heard directed toward him he would be making more than the surgeons...lol.

Overall I give him two thumbs up.

He came into the room all grinning and was sunburned. It was after 4th of July 2004 weekend. He had been to the lake he said.
I grinned at him and he was like "do i know you" and i said NO. and he was like okay. so i asked questions, he answered, he explained things in great detail. even drew me a pretty little picture. I was totally blown away by how casual yet professional he was.
and his staff, oh my gosh, they are totally awesome!!!!!
and Kenny, what would we all do without him!
He is the BOMB!!!! Every time i have a question i call him.

My Surgeon was changed by my insurance company. I have been approved for the surgery, but not approved for the hospital where the surgery was to be preformed.
I even had a date, now we are around 45 days out. I had my first visit with Dr. Floyd and he came highly recommened by not only the insurance company, but people I work with have had surgery done with him.

7-30-04 I met with Dr. Pearce and Dr. Floyd at their seminar on 7-13-04. They both seemed very knowledgable and personable. They took time out to answer any and all questions everyone there had about the surgery, benifits, risks and their success rates. Dr. Pearce was going to be my surgeon because my insurance (medicare) will only cover open RNY; however, because of MY schedule I was unable to wait until he had an opening. This was NO problem for them. I switched to Dr. Floyd with Dr. Pearce assisting. I was pleasently surprised. As for their office staff - I cannot say enough for Kenny. He never loses patience with my questions even though I'm sure he's heard them over and over by other patients and is always available when I need him. I will know much more about them after my pre-surgery consult on 8/5.

08/05/04 - Met with Dr. Floyd and Dr. Cole today (Cole is the pulminologist). I took my children with me to the appt. They are 17 and 18. Dr. Floyd was very patient with me and did make sure I understood everything. I had a major brain fart when he came into the room and forgot everything I needed/wanted to asked so I was very flustered. He waited patiently until I was able to formulate some questions.

Dr. Cole was VERY thourough (sorry spelling off today). He didn't miss a beat and even though he came off a bit brusk at first the more we talked the more his manner softened. Be prepared to spend a lot of time with him. He takes a very detailed verbal medical history BEFORE he begins the physical exam. He also explains his findings in a very clear manner and is explicit in his instructions.

One note - when he was taking the medical history my daughter asked him, "Why do you need to know all this stuff?". His response was brusk and bordered on rude and pretentious, "Because I am the doctor and I have am the one that decides if your mom has this surgery or not." My daughter is 17 and honestly did not understand why medical history dating back to being a toddler was important for something happening today. I was able to explain it to her after the appointment, but we were all a bit put off with his response. Once we calmed down and the examination questions became more current everyone's demeanor mellowed and I would go back to see him in a heartbeat.

Update! I saw Dr. Floyd in his office today (8/3/2004)for my initial consultation. He was awesome! He came into the room and was very friendly. He asked me about my family, my husband, my children. He spent quite a bit of time just chatting. He then carefully explained the surgery and allowed me to ask questions. He was GREAT! See my personal comments for more info about the consultation.

I liked him right away. His staff took care of all the paperwork with the insurance company; all I had to do was the psychologcial eval. and my history of dieting. They were great.

Dr, Floyd is wonderful! before, during, and after surgery, he has been very concerned and very supportive.

His office staff is excellent and very good to work with.

He is kind and compasionate and understanding.
He is very concerned about you and invites you to call if you need anything.

He is very straightforward about the risks of surgery.

Both his bedside manner and his surgical skills are great. I felt so comfortable with him as my surgeon that I never had any doubts about the outcome of surgery.

Dr. Floyd is very nice and caring. So far he has been extremly through in his care and making sure that I am ready for the big step of a surgery. He has a wonderful office staff that works very hard to get you scheduled for all the tests and get your insurance approved. he has been a wonderful choice for me. So far I don't have a bad thing to say about him but I haven't had the surgery yet.

Dr. Floyd will not do the surgery unless he feels that you are emotionally and phisacally able to follow the instructions of the dr. after the surgery. He does require a psychioloical evaluation as well as physical evaluation before sugery.

He has a simanar for prospective patients so that they will know what the are getting into, and he gives the patients a diet and tour of the floor where the bariactric patients are. He makes sure that each person understands that there are risks to the surgery, and that they will not do the surgery unless the risk is managable.

Dr. Floyd seems to be a wonderful doctor, and I think that his bedside manner has been great. I will let you know how the surgery goes.

Dr. Floyd was very nice and answered all my questions. He was very open about surgeries he'd done and the fact that he'd had one patient die from pancreatitis. Overall, I am very comfortable with him. The office staff is wonderful! Kenny is a doll. I look forward to continue working with them in the future.
