I had my first visit with Dr Floyd this afternoon. I was very nervous to say the least. My husband and I both liked Dr. Floyd immediately. He was very friendly. He explained everything to us in paitent friendly terms. Took time and was not in a rush to get us out. He seemed like a regular person who was really concerned about my care. The office staff was very friendly and helpful especially Kenny. I am in the process of getting approved for surgery shooting for around the 1st of May. I am very excited.

Dr. Floyd was great. He listened to me. Very pleased that he has a good knowledge of my disease as well as he has other patients that have the same disease I have and I was able to e-mail my concerns to them and also give those same concerns to Dr. Floyd. I think he was the best choice I could have made

My first impression of Dr. Floyd was that he wasn't very personable at all. He's very quiet, and all business, and I think I was looking for some "hand holding" and reassurance. I went with him only because of the three surgeons at the Bariatric Center, he was the only one who took Pacific Care, and I had come to believe that for me this was a life or death choice. I have since realized that Dr. Floyd is probably very shy, because as he gets to know you, he warms up; smiles, jokes, responds to you as a person.

When I complained to my sis about his "lack of any kind of "bedside manner", she replied, "all the best surgeons are like that." I have come to believe it. Dr. Floyd is an excellent surgeon and I have had very few of the complications that others here have experienced with other surgeons.

His office staff were wonderful, as were all of the nurses and nurses aides at Edmond. I truly felt coddled there, and comforted. They managed my pain post op wonderfully well.

Other patients going to Dr. Floyd should know that he is an excellent surgeon, but they shouldn't expect much chit chat or small talk from him until he gets to know you, and that takes a few visits.

Dr. Floyd saw me about every two weeks post op for the first 6 weeks, and then monthly thereafter (approximately) until I hit 90 days. Now I see him quarterly (more often if I feel I need to) until I'm 12 months out. I've found their aftercare program to be adequate.

Dr. Floyd was quite candid about the risks of surgery, beginning with their seminars. Of the two different seminars I attended, the first at Mercy, I found Dr. Pearce, Dr. Floyd, and Dr. Gornicek (sp?) to be the most informative; least sales like, and most candid about risks and complications, including why they occur. I know others who attended the same seminars at Mercy, and were quite happy with them, so I'm not trying to slam Mercy's program or surgeons. I'm just saying that this was my impression.

Overall, I'd rate Dr. Floyd as Excellent. I knew that at 411 pds (390 by surgery date), I stood a greater risk of complications, including pulmonary embolism given my weight, overall health (diabetic), and family history. I was in surgery for two hours, and walking by the end of the first day, and walking ever since. (I started this morning by doing 10 miles on a stationary bike.)

I'm sure for some people, some patients, both bedside manner is as important as surgical competence. In all my other health care providers, I WANT someone who has the bedside manner; someone who talks to me, and whom I feel I can talk to. But when it comes to letting someone cut me open and rearrange my insides, give me surgical competence any day, and Dr. Floyd is, truly, a gifted surgeon.

3-2-05 UPDATE: We are now with Dr. Floyd of Edmond hospital! I met him for the first time today...I like him. He was considerate and kind. He was also honest and open with all of our questions and voiced his concerns. he will be performing the open Rny on me. Kenny works really hard to help in every way he can, and the whole staff there is just so welcoming and kind to everyone. I absolutely love everyone there...I mean, we were having trouble with the insurence, Kenny took care of it. Dr. Floyd is a very personal person, meaning that he actully does care about his patients. I CAN"T WAIT!

I first met Dr Floyd at the seminar, and I thought he was very informative. I spoke with him a few minutes after the seminar, and I think he is a very pleasant man. The first time I went to his office, his office staff was very helpful and friendly. Kenny is also wonderful. He is working very hard to appeal the first denial I have gotten, which is very disappointing, but he encouraged me and I am trying to wait patiently.

Dr. Floyd is the most awesome surgeon! I researched this surgery very extensively for many years prior to having it done. Dr. Floyd and his staff made this such a great experience for me- everything was explained and all my questions were answered. Kenny handled my approval paperwork with ease. You totally rock Kenny! Having a knowledgeable, skilled, caring and not to mention extremely nice surgeon made all the difference in the world.

Dr. Phillip Floyd of Edmond Oklahoma is my surgeon. He is awesome. He is very personable and makes you feel very comfortable. He is a cutie, he is like talking to a real person. He speaks in terms easy to understand, and he has lots of experience. I would reccommend him to anyone. The staff is wonderful, Kenny is your new best friend at the office, and he knows his stuff. He has been amazing, if anyone can get you approved, Kenny can.

On my first visit Dr. Floyd seemed tired from a long day, but he was pleasant enough. My husband felt that he irritated the doctor by asking too many questions, but I didn't get that impression at all. I am hoping that next time maybe he won't be so tired and will be a little more enthusiastic. However, it was obvious to me that he is very knowledgeable.

January Update: In retrospect, I'm thinking I might have been a bit harsh in my first opinion. Here's an update. I had a really hard time with my insurer because my BMI was just below 40. Even though I have several co-morbidities they gave me quite a hassle. Not only that, they "lost" my information, to include the appeal letter, and the right hand didn't seem to know what the left hand was doing. I let Dr. Floyd know through Kenny what had happened and Dr. Floyd really went to bat for me. He called them personally and it wasn't long after that I was approved. I must have gotten on their nerves a time or two, but, if so, they never let on.
