I liked Dr. Henderson almost immediately. He explained the surgery, in detail, and then asked me if I had any questions. I had a full sheet of paper with questions. He answered every one to my full satisfaction. I have only seen him once since surgery, so can't say that my impression has changed. The office staff has been real supportive. When I've called with questions, and Dr. Henderson or his physician's assistant weren't in, the nurses have been really helpful and courteous. I went to see him one week after surgery and then again one month after surgery. My next appointment is three months after surgery. As far as having a structured aftercare or whether or not he emphasizes it, I'm not real sure. He did explain all the risks of the surgery, and they did give me pause, but I bit the bullet and did it anyway. I would rate him very good overall. Since he did cut an artery/veins during the lap part of the surgery and then had to switch to open, and I know that accidents do happen, I would still rate his surgical competence as excellent. I don't remember too much about his bedside manner as I was really into the pain medication, but I'm sure it was good too. I think overall he is a very good doctor.

Dr.Henderson was very understanding and informative. The surgery went very well and I was off pain medication and antibiotics by the second day after surgery. I stayed in the hospital for four days due to my blood sugar level being over 300 post op. After they removed the I.V. antibiotics my blood sugar level did even out. I went home medication free. The staff at South Georgia Regional Hospital was excellent. I did exactly as they surgeon and staff directed and I had a uneventful 3 week recovery. After three weeks I did develope an obstruction and had to have 3 endoscopies to correct a kink in my intestines. I firmly believe in the power of prayer because after the third endoscopy I was facing a second surgery. But I involved friends and family to pray for me and I did not have to have the second surgery. As of 4/11/03 I will be 4 months post op and have lost 80 pounds as of two weeks ago. Dr.Henderson sometimes does not answer questions quite clearly and do get the impression that a lot of symptoms that happen the physicians are still in the dark about and are only guessing. But I would recommend Dr.Henderson to others wishing to have the surgery. The aftercare that they have in place is somewhat weak thier literature drops months and doesn't emphasize eating nutritionally after surgery.

I think Dr.Henderson is the best. I just switched from another surgeon in Waycross,GA to Dr.Henderson. If i had to compare the two on a scale of 1-10 i would give my first surgeon a -0 and i would give Dr.Henderson a 10+. What a difference!! He is a very nice person and his office staff is very helpful also. He is great on explaining the Gastric Bypass Surgery procedures. I couldn't ask for any better person to do my surgery. Well i did it i am officially **... POST-OP ...** and let me tell you Dr.Henderson is the greatest! He has superior bedside manner. I honestly could not thank him enough for helping me change my life for the better. Dr.Henderson you are the best!

I was very impressed with Dr. Henderson and his office on my first visit. Dr. Henderson answered all of my questions and was very open and honest about the risks vs. benefits for this surgery. My surgery was scheduled according to my work shcedule.
The office staff has always been very polite. My insurance approval was completley (and quickly) handled by them. They have been available to answer any post-op questioins I might have.
Dr. Henderson's bedside manner is okay, but his surgical competence is what made me sure he was the surgeon I wanted. He graduated from Emory, and served in the armed forces. He took a team from SGRMC to train to do LAP RNY, and the physican came to Brunswick to assit with the first cases.
His aftercare program is not as structered as I would like, but you can get wonderful support on obesityhelp.com, and have most of your questions answered. There is a support group that meets the at 7 pm the 3rd Wednesday of every month at SGRMC. Dr. Henderson or Dr. Kent is usually there, and will address any questions. They also schedule special speakers to address issues like exercise, diet and plastic surgery.
I have done wonderfully post-op and had NO complications. The thing that I like most is how proud Dr. Henderson seems of my progress.

I was quite impressed with Dr. Henderson and his staff. They were all very nice people who made you feel welcome from the very beginning. They seemed to know quite a bit about WLS and were willing to discuss it throughly on my first visit with them. Also Sandy is a wonderful person who is willing to help out with anything. My only complaint is that I wish Dr. Henderson had spent a little more time with me after my surgery when coming to the hospital to make sure your alright. I had lots of questions about the surgery but I didn't get the chance to ask him. Overall I think Dr. Henderson is a very qualified doctor who knows what he is doing and I would definately go to him again.

He addressed the pros and cons about the surgery and I found that to be a good thing. If I had to rate Dr. Henderson I would rate him a 10.

01/13/03: I have not met Dr. Henderson yet, still waiting on BCBS. From what I am reading from others, he will be great ! 01/17/03: Pre-op on Feb 6th, surgery on Feb 11. I will meet Dr. Henderson on the 6th. 02/07/03: Finally got to meet Dr. Henderson. He is straight forward and very professional. I like him....I got an A on the true/false test he makes you take, I got all of them correct! Our visit was quite short because he was impressed with my knowledge of the procedure and the post-op requirements. I have researched and educated myself on this topic for two years. There is ALWAYS something new to learn though, so keep yourself informed ! Anyway, nice man...younger looking in person.
