Peter Henderson Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Henderson made the journey very easy. Before I even went to see him his office staff worked with me getting all the paperwork filled out. When the go the approval the first time sending it in, they made my appointment to see him. He was very nice and direct, I did not feel like he was in a hurry to get rid of me. He answered most of my questions before I asked them. He and his staff were great. But I did research his back round and found out he went to CA for training and with his 25 years as a surgeron made me feel real good about his ability to preform my surgery.

Had my first appointment with DR Henderson and his PA, Sandra Setzer on 26 August 2004. I think they are all great as I have already had the opportunity of meeting DR Kent also at one of their public seminars. I am very confident with my choice of surgeon. Once I get insurance approval (I pray), I will have another vistit with him and he was very reassuring that he would answer any and all questions that I may have before the procedure. They are very thorough detailing potential risks involved and stress aftercare not only with them but also with the dietician. Looking forward to a long healthy relationship with him and the rest of his staff.

I had already had a relationship with Dr. Henderson as he has done surgery for my husband (non-WLS). So I knew going in he was an excellent surgeon. I was concerned about his support program and after care, so when I went and expressed my concerns He actually listened and better than that he took action. He now has an excellent support program. His after care has always been good! Dr. H , Dr. Kent, Sandra(PA)and, the other doctors at their office have been very helpful, honest and down to earth. The office staff is by far the best I've ever dealt with. Truly warm, caring and professional. I would highly recommend (and I have) to anyone who is looking to change their life with this surgery.

Well you guys I have been awful about taking time to update my profile, but I was thinking that what I say might help others. My surgeon is Dr. Peter Henderson Jr. I had surgery with him in April 2003. I was very nervous about this experience and when I met Dr. Henderson, he put all my worries to rest, he is confident to the point that you feel that with your life in his hands, you will be just fine. He and Dr. Kent and Sandra Setzer the PA. have their hearts in the right place when it comes to bariatric surgery. They really care about our outcome. It is a lot harder to get on the surgery table, but what people have to understand is that we did not get this way overnight and Dr. Henderson wants to make sure that our head, heart and decision are in the right place. He requires us to do an accessment with a therapist and a seminar that will change your life. These are things that prove him to be the best. If you are looking for a quick, unsafe surgery, he is not your man, but if you want a practice that is first in their league and are precise and concerned, then you definitely need to choose Dr. Henderson. I have lost 133 pounds, I was in a size 26/28 now I'm in an 8/10, my incisions look wonderful and I regularly go to my checkups, he has wonderful support groups and they are working on scheduling different fun events. His office staff is top notch and Cheryl is Bariatric coordinator and has the best personality and is honestly eager at seeing us all do wonderful! You would be very lucky to have him do your surgery, he and his staff changed my life!

He is a very comfortable doctor to speak with. I felt relaxed and able to speak about my weight problems. I never felt rushed.
His office staff are great. They are very helpful with any questions you have.
The after care is important. They have support meetings set up and they are very helpful to go to.
I would rate this office a 10 out of 10.

<font face="Century Gothic">Dr. Henderson is great!!! His PA, Sandra and office staff are the absolute best!!! I love people who are confident, personable and knowledgeable. Their skills make the WLS Journey alot easier to transition into the new person you're destined to be! Dr. Henderson <b>does</b> require his patients to attend a mandatory Eating Disorder Workshop and a Informational Seminar. The workshop is a three day weekend but it's so in depth, time flies before you know it and the information you receive is priceless!</font>

2-8-04 Dr. Henderson and His entire staff was great. I can't believe how fast this process has been. I can't wait to be on the other side.
5-14-04 Well, i have been under Dr. Henderson and his staff's care for a little more than 3 months now and i do not regret a thing. i could not have picked a better doctor to do this surgery. He and his entire staff has genuine concern for their patients. Never have i been made to feel that i was bothering them when i would call the office with a question nor did they ever hesitate to see me as soon as possible. I can't emphasize enough what a wonderful and caring staff this is. The workshops and support group meeting are very helpful in the before and after process. I have a local support group but it doesn't hold a candle to the groups at the hospital in Brunswick. They are very informative. If you have researched this procedure and know that it is for you, you can't go wrong in your choice by choosing Golden Isles Center of Obesity Surgury.

I've met Dr. Henderson on a number of occasions; Eating Disorder Workshop and support group meetings before I had my formal appointment. He is always willing to answer questions and has developed a great pre-surgery program to help you through the hoops.
His staff is also great. They are always willing to help you with any problem. From what I can tell right now, Dr. Henerson has a formalized aftercare program and keeps up with all his patients. I feel that I have become part of a huge family.

My first impression of Dr. Henderson was that he was quiet and competent. That has since been affirmed. The pre-op appointment was really the only chance I had to speak with him one-on-one and he was very helpful and willing to talk in depth about everything. At this point he requires that you've already attended his informational mini seminar and he knew that I'd already completed the psych eval and weekend seminar so we addressing specifics.
The office staff was caring and competent at all times, also very efficient.
What I liked least about Dr Henderson is that he isn't particularly warm in his demeanor; however, that is pretty minor in my opinion. I would rather have an intelligent and very competent surgeon than one who holds my hand. His PA, Sandra, is wonderful by the way, very warm and caring, willing to take the time and talk with you.
Aftercare isn't very structured. There is a basic eating plan and regular follow up visits. Involvement in the support group is emphasized but not really possible for me due to the distance of the drive (about 2 hours each way).
The doctor didn't spend much time on the risks of surgery. That was addressed in the informational seminar, but also the fact that this doctor and his partner have completed over 350+ lap RNY's and have suffered *no* fatalities as of 5/04 is very reassuring!
Overall I would rate Dr. Henderson as an excellent physician (a 9!).

He may not be Mr warm and fuzzy, but I like him alot. He is very smart, decisive and in control. Just the man I want for a surgeon. My WLS is scheduled for 4/19/04, but he did a quick gallbladder sugery 3/31. He was great and his staff was fabulous. They put together an outpatient surgery in a very short time, and had me done and on the way home in about 3 hours! Hospital staff was kind and responsive.

I like his straight forward manner and the way he looks you in the eyes when he speaks to you. His support program is wonderful, and compliment his decision to bring in Wayne Hulon and his staff.

I have no negative points to bring up. His staff has been responsive and everything exactly as respresented so far. I feel good about my choice of this surgery and would recommend him to others.
