Dr Schmitt has been very supportive and a cheerleader throughout my journey. He is truly dedicated to his patients and has a genuine concern for your well being.
His office staff is always there if you have a question about a medication or if you think you have eaten something and will die - it doesn't matter the severity - they are always there.
Dr. Schmitt is a tall skinny man. His sister Dr. Kim Schmitt did my sleep study. I have only seen him once but he was very kind and answered all my questions. I will see him again when I go for my pre-op visit.
His office staff was nice but you could tell they get harrassed by impatient patients all the time, bugging them for a surgical date. I'm sure its because they are sooooooo busy.
They do have a structured aftercare program and you have to come back to see him every year.
Dr. Schmitt was very frank about the risks.
I think surgical competence is far more important than bedside manner.
Dr. Schmitt was wonderful. I felt comfortable with him from the beginning. He answered all my questions, stressed all the right things, and instilled total confidence. I liked his enthusiasm and he was always encouraging. I think he is an outstanding surgeon with a great bedside manner. After my surgery he came out and spoke with my husband - that meant a lot. I understand he is a little more lenient than Dr. Miles and that worked well for me!! Dr. Miles did check in on me a couple of times after surgery and he was always very nice to me and never made me feel like he was in a hurry to get in and out. I would have liked it a bit better if Dr. Schmitt had come by my room at some point after surgery but I didn't feel slighted. I also would have liked it if I had seen him when I went back to have my staples and drain removed but I am sure if I had asked, he would have stepped in.
My impression of Dr. Schmitt was very good. He was efficient, but not in a hurry and he had a good 'bedside manner'. I felt comfortable with him, which was nice.
One person who stood out at the office was Debra. She was so friendly and so available... never felt like she was rushing me. That was wonderful.
I will update more after surgery, but for now, I am very happy with my choice.
My first impression of Dr.Scmitt was very good, he looks so young. My impression remained the same over the course of time, his staff is great especially Ms. Debra Gray she was terrific and a great help.I think anyone who is considering having weight loss surgery and considering Dr.Scmitt will be making a good decision, becasue he is terrific i can't say nothing but good about him because i ran into a problem when i got my first surgery date and had to postpone due to an asthma attack he made sure that i was well enough before he even touched me and that just developed more trust for me to have him as my surgeon. He gave me alot of information about this surgery he even took time to answer personal questions that i had, i was not left out in the dark at all. i would definately give him a 10, he is a great Surgeon
I was first introduced to Dr. Schmidt at the required introductory surgical seminar that his group conducts. I wasn't sure when I went into the seminar if I wanted to make an appointment with him or with his senior partner, Dr. Miles. After listening to him explain the surgery and all the associated implications, I knew he was the guy for me. I had an opportunity to ask him a private question at the end of the seminar and that's when I knew for sure he was it. When I walked up to him, he smiled at me, stuck out his hand to shake mine and introduced himself. It was so sweet. I already knew who he was. It was my first indication of what kind of doctor he was going to be.
I then went in for my initial consultation on 7/15/03. His staff was awesome. Everyone is so kind and caring. He was a dear during our talk. I had been so afraid that I would be turned down because I have Hepatitis C. I brought all of my medical records with me to the first visit. He looked through them and said that I would indeed be a good candidate for WLS.
Everyone I have talked with about Dr. Schmidt adores him. I couldn't be more pleased that he's going to be the surgeon holding the knife. :-)
He was running a little late (still in surgery. However his staff efficiently moved me right along to everyone I needed to see before him. He was pleasant, energetic and caring. I have been researching this procedure for so long, most of my questions had already been answered. He was very honest and upfront about mortality rates and possibilities of complications. His staff was wonderful, no complaints at all! I feel as if I will be in very capable hands!
My first impression of Dr. Schmitt was that he looks to young to do this.I met him at the required seminar. When i got to the Dr. visit he was really nice. He answered all my questions, what Lisa had not answered. The office staff is great. Debra was extremly nice. I cant really think of anything that I didn;t like. Make sure that if you smoke stop before you go and see him. That is a big NO NO!!!!!!!! After care is a big thing, it is really pushed at this office.Dr. Schmitt really seemed to know what he was talking about. He flat out told me the risk of the surgery and that you could die from it. Just from my first visit I would rate him an 8. That will probley go up before this is overwith.Dr. Schmitt really seemed competence about doing this surgery as far as bed side manner I dont know yet.
