Dr. Schmitt was very nice, took his time answered all questions. The staff made sure you know it's a lifestyle change and all were very competent. Made sure the risk were addressed. I feel this is the right choice for me. Thought there would be more of a physical, but it's still early I do still have 5 month's supervised and documented diet before applying with BCBS of AL for approval.

I knew Dr. Schmitt personally. I knew that he did this surgery on a regular basis and that he knew what he was doing. He is a very caring and understanding person. He can be a little on the nutty side but who wants a doctor that has not since of humor. I would recommend Dr. Schmitt to anyone who is considering this surgery.

Dr. Schmitt is very knowledgable about the surgeries, very friendly and willing to answer any questions or concerns I had. He was also very open and honest about the risks involved.
What I didn't like about him was that he seemed very 'hurried' to move on to the next patient, but I guess this is understandable as he does have a lot of patients!
Also I was rather uncomfortable about the fact that my 1 wk post op check up was done by a woman I had never met before. I never saw him at all during that post op visit. I felt that he, himself should have looked in on me as well.
Overall I'd give him 9 out of 10. I would say that anyone in the B'ham area considering this surgery should definatly go to Dr. Schmitt, as he is a really good surgeon.

My first impression of Dr. Schmitt was that he is a very caring individual. My impression of him has yet to change only has improved. The office staff is very friendly and informative. I don't have any negative things to say . Future patients should know that he is an individual that you can talk to if you feel uncomfortable about something. He emphasizes aftercare very strongly and wants you to keep all your appointments to make sure that there is nothing that he needs to change as far as your regimen. He addressed the risks of surgery very upfront and openly so that the patient can understand all the risk and make a well informed decision. His overall rating has been to this date (01/31/05) a 10. His surgical competence and bedside manner were both great. I liked that he actually took the time to come in and talk to my family so that the would not be confused as to what was going on with me directly after surgery. That was nice because I have never had surgery prior.

Dr. Schmitt was very warm & caring. Extremely knowledgable & respectful. Genuinely the BEST!!

My impression of him has only gotten even better over time. He has been very conscietious & incredibly helpful.

I have no complaints. He is very busy, but I didn't go into this for a running around buddy. I wanted a very capable, compassionate, detail-oriented surgeon. He is all of those things & more!

He is, in my opinion, the best choice in surgeons practicing.

He emphasizes a lot of personal responsibility in aftercare. But my experience has been that if you follow what he says to do to the letter, the journey is really wonderful.

His aftercare program is comprehensive without being invasive or excessive.

He addressed the risks of surgery very straight-forward and up front. He also advised me of the specific risks that accompanied my particular condition pre-op. While being very hopeful, he was always very honest and open about the potential risks.

It's with no hesitation that I rate him at 11 out of 10. He's excellent in every way.

Going into surgery at 442 lbs. I was more concerned with his surgical competence. He was able to do my surgery laproscopically. But I had no problems at all with his bedside manner. Very caring & helpful.

I know the form says that "100% positive reviews are generally less informative or even suspect." But honestly, I have had no negative experiences related to Dr. Schmitt, his manner, or his expertise.

Dr. Schmitt is a very professional, compassionate physician.

He and his staff made me feel very comfortable with the procedure and I feel confident the follow-up will be excellent as well.

Very professional and compassionate.

I haven't found anything I dislike or would change.

Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Aftercare is a major factor in the MCE program. I researched programs in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia before deciding to have the surgery done. Dr. Schmitt and the program at MCE met my criteria and expectations.

All aspects of the surgery were discussed including the risks of having surgery. No one made light of any of the risks and it was stated plain and simple that death can result from the surgery. I felt comfortable with the stats Dr. Schmitt gave at the seminar and in his office.

I am very pleased with Dr. Schmitt and the program at MCE. I would highly recommend him and his staff and the program at MCE.

Surgical competence is the most important, but bedside manner plays an important role as
well. Dr. Lee Schmitt exhibits both, professionally, and treats his patients with the utmost consideration and kindness.
