I knew Dr. Schmitt was the surgeon for me when I first met him. He actually looked me in the eye when he spoke to me instead of constantly looking at my chart. He's cute, too. (My husband gave me permission to write that!) I had my surgery on August 6, 2007. It was a very pleasant experience (minus the pain). Dr. Schmitt came by to see me when he said he would and he really listened to what I had to say. His office staff is very professional, helpful, and generally interested in what you have to say. His total program (before, during, and after surgery) supports the patient and his/her needs. I knew all of the risks, expectations, and requirements before surgery. His competence as a surgeon and his bedside manner both deserve the highest marks. As an elementary teacher and a patient, I give him an A+! If you are in the process of looking for a surgeon and are planning on having it done in the B'ham area, give Dr. Schmitt a call. You will be very happy you did!rnJoanna Whitman

An incredibly well structured pre and post program that is very efficient. Dr. Schmitt and his team of professionals provide the skill level that comes from performing thousands of these surgeries along with enthusiasm - a rare combination. Extremely thorough and responsive.

After attending my first seminar given by Dr. Schmitt, I was drawn in by the fact that he wasn't afraid to talk about God. He mentioned God at least six time during his very educational and en-lightening seminar. God is someone that Dr's seem to shy away form these days, it is very uplifting to know that some still know that he Lives.rnrnIt took me almost one year to meet all the requirements for my insurance company, but his staff was very patient and helpful in the journey. Naomi was the best ever, never failing to answer any question and never acting like it was a bother or problem. (Thanks so much Naomi)rnrnDr. Schmitt is in my opinion one of the BEST.

I meet Dr Schmitt back in August at my first appointment. I really liked him. He was straight to the point. We discussed the risks and the pros of having the surgery. I have setup all my required evaluations that my primary insurance requires and I am now a third of the way of getting closer to approval. I can't wait. rnI would refer Dr Schmitt and his office to anyone. The staff there ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

Dr Schmitt did the seminar that I went to and I was immediatley impressed with him. It is like he knew what we as large people go through! He is always running so when you see him, have your lists. He is in and out but I did a lot of research and everything I found was possitive with him. The whole team (his staff) is pulling for you! Veronica is such a special special person that God has put in place where she needs to be in life! I am so proud I choses this group for my surgery! rnrnI rate Dr Schmitt a 15 out of 10!!!rnVeronica gets a 15 too!rnI do not need bedside manner, I wanted a skilled surgeon that has done a lot of these procedures and that is what I got. I was so impressed I talked my sister and best friend to go to them they went to the seminar on the 28th>

1st impression was very nice and willing to listen to any questions I had. I really didnt have many so he was in and out in a hurry for the consult but that didnt bother me. His staff is very good and organized. Naomi is a superchic that puts up with a lot of phone calls and did great handling me. Some of the people answering the phones can sound annoied and that can get on your nerves but eeveerybody else seemed to be friendly and willing to help. I guess I wasnt looking for a surgeon to be my buddy but someone who is good at what he does and that's what I think I got. Dr Schmitt answered all the questions I had and told me what to expect and got me in and out with no problems so far. Dr. Miles followed up in the hospital and had a good bedside manner. I think they are a good team and great surgeons!

Caring and supportive of the Bariatric population. Excellant surgical skills. Had a close family member that had gastric bypass surgery. He has first hand experience with the discrimination and poor health problems of this family member. I think this is important because it is an awareness that everyone needs. His partner, Dr. Miles, and their surgical assistant share the same qualities as Dr. Schmitt. rnAnymore it is very difficult to get insurance approval for surgery. The office staff does the best that they can with all of the hoops everyone has to jump through.

I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful Dr. Schmitt and his staff are. From the first time I met him and every time I have seen him since, he has been more than wonderful. The care I received during my hospital stay was above and beyond! Jackie and the nursing staff at Medical Center East made my stay there exceptional. I could not have asked for better care. Jill (the program coordinator) is always there when I have a question for her and never hesitates to help. Hats off to Dr. Lee Schmitt and his entire staff!
