Lee A. Schmitt (COE) Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

I have researched bariatric surgery for a couple of years now, and last spring I decided that Lap-Band was a good option for me. I had Lap-Band surgery with Dr. Lee Schmitt in November, and I honestly can't say enough about him. Aside from his caring nature, he is extremely knowledgeable and made me feel very comfortable about each step of the process. Dr. Schmitt is a surgeon that truly cares about his patients before and after surgery. He is very encouraging and he is geniunely happy for the successes you have. If you are considering any bariatric surgery, I would highly recommend Dr. Schmitt and his staff on the basis of care, surgical competence and relatability. This surgery has changed my life, and I am thankful to have such a wonderful doctor whose mission is to better the lives of others.

Dr. Schmitt was great. From the 1st visit up through my 1 year follow-up. He is very professional, but also personable. He is willing to spend time talking and answering questions. His staff has always been extremely friendly and helpful. rnrn

Dr. Schmitt is a wonderful Doctor. I originally went in to the seminar and heard his partner Dr. Les Miles at Medical Center East. I had a friend who had used Dr. Schmitt so I selected him to do my surgery. My first impression was that he was friendly and confident. His office staff were terrific. The nurse practioner Kim is awesome! Dr. Schmitt has a great program you go through at MCE. You are very well educated and prepared to know what to expect before, during and after surgery. The nutritional class was very helpful prior to surgery! Dr. Schmitt is very upfront about the risks of surgery but also has very good stats himself and has done over 1000 bypass surgeries. I would rate him overall as a terrific, caring and competent surgeon! I liked his personality he is not a big talker but has a sharp dry sense of humor I thought was really funny! I like a direct to the point kind of Dr. that makes me feel safe and secure while in their hands. Dr. Schmitt fit the bill for me personally!

He is very committed to what he does. Very matter of fact. Answers all questions completely. His office staff is very competent. He is very in and out. Not a man of many words, however if you ask a question, he fully answers. He is very matter of fact about the rules of the pouch and aftercare. He carefully went over the risks of the surgery giving percentages and answering all my questions.rnrnOverall I would rate him as an excellent surgeon, very talented. He is better in the surgical competence field than bedside manner.

Dr. Schmitt has been a very great doctor! He makes time to talk to you and treats you like a friend rather than another number he can add to the list of lap bands he's implanted. He shows real concern for your health and happiness. I would recommend Dr. Schmitt to anyone!!

I originally chose Dr. Miles but I switched from Dr. Miles to Dr. Schmitt after my initial consult because Dr. Miles was not able to see me due to an emergency. However, I really liked Dr. Schmitt because he answered all questions I had and he seemed to be very knowledgeable. I feel comfortable with Dr. Schmitt doing my surgery. He is very involved in the aftercare and also the risks. He treated me like a person, not just a blob of fat. He remembers his patients and will talk to you in the halls if he sees you! I was very happy having Dr. Schmitt as my surgeon.

Just a note about my surgeon.
I met Dr. Schmitt several years ago, during his residency at the hospital in which I worked. Hes has always been a very compassionate & caring. When a patient had a problem, he was there. When I had a question about patients under his care, he was there.
You can tell alot about a doctor by the way he treats not only his patient, but by the way he treats his nurses. Always kind and polite. Never condescending, saw that it is really a team that cares for a patient. When I was researching this surgery, I was VERY excited to see he was available in my area. His program is very intensive, very thorough. He discussed the risks, his record for complications, he was very open and helpful. As a nurse I asked questions that the general public may not have the knowledge base to ask. He was informative and took the time I needed to ask those questions. I am still pre-op yet I feel confident that he is the surgeon for me. His program is very wellness conscious. Both before and after the surgery. Manditory pre-surgery steps to ensure less risks afterwards. Also a manditory follow-up schedule with him and other specialists.
He also stresses involvement of your primary MD. I feel this program is as complete as possible, to ensure a positive outcome.
As for anything negative to say... he looks awfully young, and I may have worked with him, but he has never operated on me. I'll update after the surgery.


I am now 1 yr post-op, and 95lbs lighter!!!
Dr Schmitt has been great. He has been there every step of the way. I have referred 4 of my friends and they have been very pleased as well.

He is very big on aftercare treatment you must follow direction in order to tthe surgery to be a sucess.
