I have been big my whole life. I had high blood pressure, diabetes, and sleep apnea. Dr. Schmitt is great, so easy to talk to. He is very encouraging. He gave me my life back. My whole weight loss journey has been great, from the doctor, his staff, the support group and the people i have met. It really shows that everyone cares about each other and their success.
After college I began gaining pounds each year, eventually reaching 306 pounds. Diets were unsucessful to say the least. For every 10 pounds I lost via a diet, it seemed I gained back 12. After months researching surgical weight loss options, I decided the lap band was best for my situation. The band has proven to be a great tool. I am 13 months out of surgery and have lost around 90 pounds. I am not yet a goal weight, but i can see the light at the end of the tunnel. If i could only use one word to describe Dr. Schmitt, it would be comfortable. From our first meeting, Dr. Schmitt has made me feel comfortable in my choice of surgeries, as well as being comfortable with his skill as a surgeon and level of follow up care.
I have tried everything in the book to try to keep my weight under control but could never keep it off. I am only 2 months out of surgery but can tell that this is what I needed to finally take control of my weight. Slow, gradual, and sucessful. Dr. Schmitt is wonderful! He is always willing to answer any questions and help in any way he can!
I weighed over 300 pounds. I was built like my father and saw his struggles with diabetes and back and knee problems. I decided I didnt need to wait for those problems and to take action. I lost about 130 pounds in 10 months! MY surgery went very well with no complications. I suggest doing the surgery younger instead of when other issues might complicate the recovery. Dr. Schmitt was attentive, sympathetic.
At the age of 23 I hit 360 pounds and knew without a doubt it was going to kill me. Because of my insurance there was a 6 month wait before my insurance would cover me ( 6 month diets). In these six months I lost 30 pounds but still had tons to lose. Because of my weight, blood pressure and sleep apnea I was fully covered for my surgery. On November 3 2008 I went under the knife. The scariest and best day of my life. Three weeks after surgery I'm off all blood pressure meds, and feeling much better. Today Feb. 25, 2009 I am down to 285 pounds and down 6 pants sizes. I wish I would have done it sooner. Dr. Schmiit is the greatest, nicest, most courteous doctor I have ever saw. I recommend him to people all the way in Huntsville.
I had become disgusted with the person i saw in the mirror. When the weight started coming off I could see myself again, and NOT the monster I had been. My energy level has shot up and i can play outside with my kids now. Dr Schmitt has been great. He really set my mind at ease and answered all my questions in a very professional and personal manner. I would recommend him to anyone.
Ive always been overweight, but in the past few years, I had high blood pressure, major acid reflux and used a C-Pap machine. Within 3 months of surgery I had none of these things anymore I feel great and the love the feedback from others. Dr Schmitt and Dr Miles are both wonderful. Dr Schmitt was very caring and informative as well and patient with me. Dr.Miles saw me in the hospital and at the doctors office once. Hes a wonderful docotr as well. The office girls are super nice and very informative.
