My first impression of Dr. Schmitt was one of being very professional and very detailed about what I as a patient could expect before during and after the surgery. Dr. Schmitt and his staff made sure I was indeed a good canidate for the surgery and that I had the support at home to deal with changes that I would go through.rnrnSince my surgery five years ago my impression has not changed. He and his staff have alway been available for follow-up visits and questions. rnrnDr. Schmitt des not come in o follow-up appointments and go bang--bang--bang and out the door.. He takes the time to listen and answer your questions.rnrnHe emphasized after care. It was a two way street. I understood what was expected of me before the surgery and after surgery. One of the main reason I seleced Dr. Schmitt was the after care and the support he and his office provived. He basicly told me if I wasn't prepared to do the follow-up he would not do the surgery. As a patient you must committ to the entire package not just the parts you want. rnrnDr. Schmitt did explain the risk involved in the surgery. As with any type of surgery there risks involved. Some times things go wrong and patients die but I knew that up front.rnrnThe surgery was definetly worth the risk. I went from my highest weight of 308 lbs. to at one point to 155 lbs. At that weight my sister told me I ooked like death eating on a cracker. My weight as settled out at between 90 and 195 after 5 years. I'm very comfortabe with that. I look good and feel good. I don't have any of the other health related issues associated obesity that I had prior to my surgery.rnrnIt was a life changing event that I would recommend to anyone struggling with your weight. Just be prepared to committ to the ENTIRE program....it isn't easy.rnrnIf you live any where Birmingham, Alabama I would strongly suggest you contact Dr. Schmitt's office for a consultation. I am married with three children abd have struggled with my weight for years, until I had Lap-Band and it has changed my life forever. Well i have been overweight since I was eight years old. I lost 100 pounds my 12th grade year of school. I got married and guess what happened, I gained my weight back. Dr. Schmitt is great.

They are so professional and they care about their patients. I had called a number of offices seeking info and when i first heard Ashley's voice and her pleasant demeanor i knew this was the right office and doctor for me. You could not find a more caring and compassionate doctor like Dr. Schmitt.

My surgery was one of the best things to happen to me. I no longer hurt (joint wise) when getting up in the morning nor do i have feet pain from walking in mall of grocery. I love to travel and since my surgery i have so much energy. I really feel as i have been given a new life. All of my family, friends and co-workers have noticed the difference in me. This has been a wonderful experience for me. Dr. Schmitt is a excellent surgeon and educator. No question was to small. If it was a problem for me, it was a problem for Dr. Schmitt.

i have battled a weight problem most of my life.

I have been obese my whole life. At the age of 45, I decided it was time to stop analyzing why I ate continuously, and instead, become pro-active about my weight problem. I researched gastric banding surgery for about a year and in Feb 2007 began working on my BC/BS requirements for surgery. I was banded in March 2009 on St. Patricks Day. It was a wonderful experience and the best thing I have ever done for myself. Dr. Schmitt is a blessing! I selected him as my surgeon after much research and personal referals from other people. He is patient and kind but, most importantly, is a professional and skilled surgeon. I entrusted Dr. Schmitt with not only my life, but my whole family, as this surgery affected us all. He is excellent and I thank God for helping me find him. Dr. Schmitt and his staff, Veronica and St. Vincents all work together to give their patients the best of care. As a person who had never been under anesthesia, I was scared to death and had many questions and concerns about gastric banding. This group of professionals has a indepth educational program that fully answered my questions. They inform you of each step down the road to surgery and are there supporting you after surgery. Quite frankly,Dr. Schmitt and his staff offer comforting \"old time doctoring\" combined with new technical weight loss surgery, that I need to succeed in this busy world. After much research and prayer I know I made the right choice in selecting Dr.Schmitt. The state of Alabama can be very proud to call this group one of our own!

It has been five years since my life has changed beacuse of my surgery. It has been the best five years. I didnt want to go out before my surgery because of lack of energy abd the way i looked.I recommend this to anyone whom is obese. Dr. Schmitt is wonderful. He has been with me all the way of my journey.

Dr. Schmitt is great. He is very brief and always on the move. His office is always helpful. He is a great doctor with great bedside manner and he really cares about his patients getting better so they can start to lose weight and live a more productive life.
