At 50 years old i chose to do something for myself. We all do for others, especially moms. For my 50th birthday I decided to have the realize band surgery. Even though the insurance wasnt going to pay and I would be making another payment, THIS payment would be mine, for me something i needed and wanted. I met with Dr. L Schmitt and knew immediately this is truly the way to go. After several seminars I was positive this would be right for me, slow and steady. I feel better each month that passes.

I weighed 280 lbs at my largest. I had heal spurs and I was so tired. I have lost almost 100 lbs. Dr. Schmitt was so sweet and listened to whta I had to say and answered all my questions> He gave me my life back.

At surgery I weighed 464 lbs with no mobility or strength to do anything and i was having heart problems and had high blood pressure. I was on a c-pap and i was a diabetic. I have lost 110 pounds in 6 months and i am more mobile and i have gotten off the c-pap and have cut my insulin in half. I feel great. Dr Schmitt is a great surgeon and is very knowledgable and supportive.

For years I tried weight loss programs with no results. My daughter in lawhad the lap band and was successful and I felt it would help me and it has. I am diabetic on a insulin pump and the surgery is helping me keep it more controlled. My surgeon Dr. Schmitt walked me through the program before hand and explained every detail of the surgery before and after. I have referred him to some of my friends that are considering the surgery.

Dr. Lee Schmitt is an excellent surgeon and his office staff is top notch. Dr. Schmitt is very friendly and easy to talk to. I am hearing impaired and he and his staff made sure that I heard and understood everything about the surgery, risk and aftercare. Two ladies in his office are standouts, Neomi and Peggy. They went above their jobs duties to see that I was informed and taken care of. Because of my hearing problem on the phone they corresponded via e-mail and made appointments for me via e-mail. Dr. Schmitt practices at St. Vincent East in Birmingham and the hospital and Dr. Schmitt has won awards of Excellence for Bariatic surgery.

I have been overweight most of my life and diets galore i have done them all with the yo-yo effects. I am glad i am now in control with the lap-band surgery. Dr. Schmiitt is very sweet and is easy to talk toand i am so thankful I did it. The support meetings are great to network with others on all the good and bad results, trails etc. I wish they were closer to where I live.

My starting weight was 238 and i am 4 foot 11 and age 51. My weight loss at the 5 month point was 45 pounds. I was very happy. Exercise is very important. My doctor was very informative about the surgery and gave me time to ask questions. I have only attended one support group meeting so far and it was wonderful.

I was on 12 pills and 2 shots per day before surgery. Now i take a 1-2 pill per day. Dr. Schmitt is wonderful. He truly care about each person.

I am 42 and have been overweight most of my life. Since i had the lap band im losing weight and feel wonderful. Dr. Schmitt is a really cool doctor. He listens toyou and takes his time with you.

I am 54 years and i have lost 153 lbs. My surgery was feb. 26, 2008. I had type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. I am on no meds now since i had surgery. My surgeon was very good and very honest.
