Dr. Houston is an excellent surgeon. He is very passionate about his work, and cares about his patients. He is very direct and thorough, providing all the information to help his patients make an informed choice. He even has a great sense of (dry) humor. His staff, Holly, is incredible. I highly recommend Dr. Houston and the Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity.

I believe Dr. Houston to be a very competent surgeon. Even though my BMI was very high he was still able to do my RNY laproscopically. Dr. Houston is a \"to the point\" kind of doctor. He tells it like it is and I am very OK with that. He did a great job on my surgery and that's all a patient can ask for because everything else is up to me using the tool he provided. His office staff are friendly and very prompt about getting answers and returning phone calls. I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Houston or his staff. They did an excellent job.

I had a very unique situation -- Dr. Houston did my sister's RNY fourteen months before my surgery. I was at the hospital for her surgery and thus saw first hand Dr. Houston's skill and bedside manner (genuine). I also made several followup visits with her. I felt she had excellent care and was super impressed with the aftercare program. Five months after her surgery, we attended one of Dr. Houston's seminars. I was extremely impressed with his presentation -- very confident and comprehensive. My choice of a surgeon was a \"no brainer\". I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out, but no problems. I sincerely believe I was in great hands and would recommend him to anyone.rnSomething I really appreciated was the \"old mother hen\" protectiveness he has with his surgical patients. He just has a way of putting the patient at ease.rn
I had reached my point of desparation Fall 2007. I did research on the internet and came across this group of physicians. I loved their holistic/multidisciplinary approach and thorough aftercare program. I went to the educational seminar and met Dr. Olsen who I liked but was impressed with Dr. Houston's stats so I scheduled an appt to meet with him. The minute I met him, I KNEW he was my surgeon. He is matter-of -fact, letting you know that the surgery is a tool but you must follow the entire program for best results. He lets you know that he and his staff are literally your partners as you begin the journey into your new life! The office staff is great and Holly is the gem at the top!! She worked so hard with me getting all the approvals from BCBS! I had my surgery Monday May 5th and I am sitting home today...still sore but doing GREAT! No complications at all! He even found a hiatal hernia and worked the surgery around that obstacle....took him a little longer but he did it! He was caring and compassionate and always truthful. The nurses at Centennial have great respect for him and since I'm a nurse, that speaks VOLUMES to me and again let me know I made a good decision. I never felt condemnation for my weight....only an incredible hope that with his help, and my determination, that will change. He and his team exceed excellence as far as I'm concerned and I would recommend them to EVERYONE!!!!!

I was very impressed with DR Houston. This was something I had been thinking about for three years. It finally got to the point where my health was going down hill quickly. Dr Houston was the second Doctor that I had seen. The first Doctor was not very sure if I could even have the surgery. I have had two previous surgery in my stomach area and that causes a promblem for the surgery. Dr Houston was very straight forward with me and told me that it could be done. That it would be a very hard surgery to complete, but that it could be done. I finally felt like I had hope. I feel like Dr Houston has saved my life. I trust him and know that he will take good care of me.
I have found Dr. Hugh Houston to be very professional and matter of fact. Everyone is different but for me, I want a surgeon that is confident and a bit arrogant about his profession. I have found Dr. Houston to be both kind and to the point, he does not candy coat things, he'll let you know that it won't be easy but if you follow his lead he'll get you to your goal. I find the office staff especially Holly to be very helpful. The aftercare program is just beginning for me but so far I have met with the dietician and that was very positive.
Dr. Houston is my third potential surgeon and I have to say I have found my Surgeon. Dr. Houston was by far the most honest and up front of the surgeons I have had a chance to consult with. rnrnOur consultation appointment ran over and he stayed after the rest of his staff had gone home so that he could explain ALL aspects of the surgery and the entire WLS journey. We could tell he was tired and had a long day, but he gave us everything we needed and answered all our questions with no rushing or hurrying. He would even backtrack to make sure he had covered everything. He was very personable and funny. He has a great way of explaining the risks and how we can prevent them, in addition to giving us real world expectations as opposed to best case. rnrnIn the past with other surgeons, we have received information pertaining to what will happen after surgery and what will be expected as far as a diet, but the information provided by Dr. Houston was far above what we were expecting. The attention to detail was amazing. It included everything from what you should bring into the hospital to how many potential IV lines you will have during surgery. I have never had someone go that in depth with me in regards to any procedure. rnrnI would also like to say Dr. Houston's staff is also amazing. Holly, Kathy, and Jay all made us feel welcome and wanted. The staff knew what we were going through and has been VERY helpful in all our questions and accommodating us. rnrnI would recommend Dr. Houston a hundred times over. He's in it for the patients, and I could not be more comfortable with my choice in surgeons.

What can I say that has not already been said about this wonderful, rncaring, compassionate man? That I have the utmost confidence in himrnand his staff? That for the first time I can remember in a long timerna doctor treated me with respect, care and concern, and didn't justrnlay blame, shame, and guilt for the fact that I was obese? That afterrnmeeting and talking to him I felt there might be hope and help for myrnhealth and disease? Yes, I can honestly say all of these things andrnI felt like he really cared about me and my problem and it wasn'trnjust his job. I didn't get the feeling that I was just anotherrnpatient to rush in and out of his office. He spoke to me at lengthrnand answered all my questions and even alleviated my very protectivernmother's concerns.rnrnThe gastric bypass surgery Dr. Houston performed on me has given mernmy life back. Prior to surgery, I went to work, church, and shoppedrn(with great difficulty) for just what I had to. My life was anrnexistence but not an enjoyment. I am so thankful that Dr. Houstonrnagreed to work with me and my insurance company to give me thisrnsecond chance at life. His support, encouragement, and sometimes evenrna little scolding are what have helped to make my surgery a success.rnI knew when I heard him at the seminar that his honest, tell it likernit is manner was what I wanted in a surgeon. But he has a soft siderntoo and if I've needed a little hand holding along the way he hasrndone that also.rnrnSo, thank you Dr. Houston for my new life. I am so glad you decidedrnto use your surgeon's skills to help those of us who have fought thernbattle with obesity without much success and help or support from thernmedical community. Thank you for seeing me as a human being with arndisease and not just a self-indulgent fat person. I hope I can livernup to your expectations and promise to do my best to make the most ofrnthis wonderful, valuable tool you have given me.rn
Dr Houston has really changed my life. I had been denied this surgery 4 times by my insurance company (BCBS). So I finally made the decision to use my retirement fund for the surgery since I had been told I would'nt live to be 35, I wasn't going to make it to retirement anyway. I made a phone call to Dr. Houston's office after doing research on the web. I was totally surprised when he himself answered the phone. I told him my story and he talked to me for about an hour on the phone. When we hung up, I had an appointment 2 days later in Nashville. Now tell me who gets an appointment in Nashville on two days notice. When I left Nashville two days later, I was ready for surgery. Bloodwork complete, pschye evaluation complete, and surgery day set. I truly believe this was my miracle. I am alive today because of that one phone call.rnrnAfter getting off track and gaining 60 lbs I was afraid to go to the doctor and didn't for 6 + months because I was so ashamed. When I did get my \"nerve\" up to go back to the doctor, the staff treated me as though I had never left. They didn't make me feel like a failure, they wer more like what can we do to get you back on track again. I am so proud to be associated with this great Doctor and his staff.
