My first impression was that he was very matter of fact, I felt kinda put off. He took one look at me, said this is how the incision will look, this is the type of surgery, talk to the front desk to set up an appointment, these are the tests you need done etc... very abrupt if you know what I mean. Over time, I just knew that I wanted the surgery no matter what, and he was going to do it, no ifs ands or buts. His staff was very infomative especially Shirley, she had the surgery by him. No time to think about what I liked least about him, he was going to do me a major service. Aftercare, right now he is in flux, it is a moot point, but it appears when he changes hospitals it will be a major influence in his care, before and after. Risks were addressed in a very candid manner, this is not a surgery to be taken lightly, it is major and people could die, although the risk is very low, I would never go to someone who only had done 20 a year, I would rather go to someone who has done many and his death and complication stats are low. On a scale of 1-10 I would give him a 9, and I am a tough cookie when it comes to doctors. My feeling is to make it in a people oriented field such as medicine you not only have to be competent but you also have to have a bedside manner about you, he is able to laugh and make people believe that there is a THIN future in store for them if they follow their doctor's advice.

Dr. Slotman is an excellent surgeon. I could not believe how humorous he could be. On my initial visit to him to discuss surgery, I was already prepared to go forward. He just graciously explained the entire process, told a few jokes and said go home & think about. He didn't force the decision, he wanted to make sure that I knew everything. I especially liked the fact that he cares, and you can feel secure that he is giving you the best.

Overall,Dr Slotman is 10!!!

Thank you Dr. Slotman, with God's help you have given me a second chance.

On first impression I felt put out, kinda like " okay, you are fat, and this is what I will do for you !" Minimal explanation of the surgery. Over time, I gained more respect for him and what he does to help heavy people. His office staff are helpful, especially his nurse Shirley, she had the surgery performed by him and I saw before and after pictures of her. I originally felt that he was very cocky, but I later came to see it as self assurance. He is very good at what he does, and it appears to be well worth the wait to have the procedure done. He very much encourages SUPPORT GROUPS, in fact I was just informed that he is leaving Cooper Medical Center in March and will be joining Our Lady Of Lordes Hospital because they will offer his patients Support Groups on campus. He infomed me of the risks, especially that of possible death, even though it is rare. I had some complicatons after surgery, but weeks later and after much thought I would rate him about a 9 on a scale of 1-10. I feel as though surgical competence and bedside manner are important, they go hand in hand, those that have both will go much further in the medical field.

I felt he was very personable. I did have to wait a while in the examination room but was told when I originally made my appt. that there is usually at least an hour wait. He did answer all my questions. I had a few questions about after care since I have 2 small children. He addressed that issue also.

My first impression of Dr. Slotman was that he was/is very knowledgable about the surgery and an extremely warm and kind surgoen. He explained the surgery to me in a language I would understand. He took the time to explain when I did not understand something. My impression has changed about him but for the better. He is a wonderful doctor and an excellent surgeon. His office staff is kind, warm and supportive. He was highly referred to me by a diet doctor. He is a very busy surgeon. He stresses aftercare. I saw him everyday while I was in the hospial and was scheduled to see him at his office 3 weeks after I was released and then monthly for the 1st 6 months after the surgery. He had everything I should expect post surgery and what I was supposed to eat written out and explained. I owe Dr. Slotman my life. He gave me a second chance at being alive and healthy. When I mentioned this to him, he gave me praise for having the desire to live and going through such a great risk as to have major surgery. He addressed the risks in detail. I rate him 100 in everything. Both his surgical competence and his bedside manner are excellent.

He is very laid back and comforting. Sometimes he seems a little rushed. Like he has been repeating himself.
The rushed thing doesnt bother me because I make him slow down. LOL
His Staff? Wow above and beyond the call of duty. Karen and Shirley are one of a kind. I was in a car accident 20min before I was due for pre-op. I called them from the side of the road. I had no idea but they actually came down to the accident to pick me up. I was already on the way by ambulance and my husband and sister in-law were on stretchers and taken to the ER at the same hospital. I was so upset, Shirtley stayed with me the entire time. Karen was running back and forth from the ER to pre-op giving my husband and I updates on our condition. Even when they were discharged from the ER and came to my side the girls stayed with me. Dr. Slotman had it NO other way! They abandoned the office to be with me!
He is very honest and I asked... "how many people died at your hands?" "How many cases of leakage or sepsis have you had?"
he told me. then he told me why he doesnt have those problems. He has his own theories on things and for that I respected him.
Overall, I had not one bad experience with Dr. Slotman or his staff! I dare for someone to say they have.
Cooper hospital on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired.

I thought Dr. Slotman was very informative and caring. I got the impression that he really enjoys seeing the results of his work because he knows, he's helping large people regain their self esteem and be able to look and feel good again.
He stressed the importance of post-op care and answered all my questions with great detail.

My initial meeting was very precise, I had to wait 4 months for an appointment. Dr. Slotman was referred by a medical member in the family.

I found the one meeting I had organized, and the Doctor spent significant time discussing the procedure and how important the post operative care was necessary to the success ofthe procedure.

Rate the Doctor now 9.
