My first impression of Dr. Rumsey was that he was very friendly and seemed to be a nice man. My impression of him didn't change. I actually was feeling quite comfortable with him. His staff was really friendly and made me feel comfortable from the time I got there until I left. He's a very caring doctor and will listen to all your concerns. At first I was scared when he said he I had to lose 40 pounds before surgery but he explained why and I told him I don't have a problem with losing it just keeping it off. He said they'd haver surgery before I could gain it back. We didn't talk much about aftecare. He was very thorough with the risks of surgery and how it would work. I really liked him and have all the confidence in allowing him to do the procedure. All surgical competence, bedside manner should be very important. You should feel comfortable with your doctor whos performing this procedure.

I will not meet him until October
I never met Dr. Gracia since my consultation date was canceled. But I met Dr. Rumsey on December 27, 2002. My first impression of him was that he was nice. He saw my husband and I together. He seemed concerned that we understood all of the changes that would be taking place over the next couple of months while we await our surgery. He answered all of our questions, as we did his. He has a great bedside manner, so far.
The office staff for Dr. Rumsey were great. One of the receptionists had the surgery herself and shared some of her experience with us. So far there isn't anything I do not like about him.
The one thing that I liked that least was the fact that he could not tell me what my surgery date would be. I was under the impression that we would know right away.
He has a very structured precare and aftercare. We were given booklets with thorough information on both.
He was quite honest about the risks and benefits of the surgery. Informed us of the most common complications and mortality rate.
On a scale from 1 to 10 I would rate him an 8 at this time. I will tell you more after the surgery.
Of course, the most important is his surgical competence, which I never doubted after researching him on the internet, but it is nice that he also has a wonderful bedside manner.

Dr. Rumsey is fantastic...I wish I lived closer to San Diego, but have moved to Colorado and lost touch with his office.

Dr Eugene Rumsey is without a doubt an angel from Heaven. His personal attention and obvious expertise is beyond measure. He has alerted my Primary Care Doctor and sent him a detailed description of my surgery and described how my surgery will affect my future health. Everything Dr Rumsey did focused on my personal welfare and future health. May God forever bless him.

What a wonderful man! I have been in nursing many years and met many doctors, but this I can say is well educated well informed of latest technology and a good bedside manor. On 12/03/02 I went to San Diego to meet with him and found him willing to take his time to answer my questions. Explaining all aspects, diet before and after surgery and possible complications.

I have only met with him once so far for consultation. I appreciated his openess and answering my questions honestly. He called me at home to discuss the diet he wants me to maintain over the next 2 months while I await surgery... I was extremely impressed that he called me at home to talk to me directly.

Now that I have had the surgery, I can say he was a wonderful surgeon. He came in twice daily to check my progress in the hospital and look in on me. The nurses there think he is pretty special too. He has encouraged me to contiue on with the support group meetings, keeping up with the diet as it progresses and wants me have monthly clinic visits for a while. His surgical competence and bedside manner were both wonderful.

I have an appointment with Dr. Rumsey scheduled for Dec. 18, 2002. I am so excited. He spoke at the seminar I went to last year and seemed terrific. I look forward to meeting with him and getting a surgery date.

My surgeon was wanderful from the start. Very warm and made me feel at ease. The more he talked the more I liked him. The office staff was great. My contact person for the surgeon had this surgery herself. Then came to work for him. So she could really relate. After care was talked about the most important part of our visit. They provide a wonderful support group. He talked some about the risk and reasured me that it really has the same risks as any other surgery. I had done so much research myself that I took over the conversation. We talked about the blood clots and all the other risks. Pacific Bariatric Group made me feel that they really care. I work in the medical field and I know lip service when I hear it. I think that Dr Bermans surgical competence is the most important then a great bed side manner makes him able to make the patient feel at ease. This is just my personal impressions of my own personal experience. I encourage you to do your own research and form your own oppinions.
