I met with my sugeon, Dr. Eugene Rumsey...last week on 9/24/03. He was on-time...and very nice. He seemed to explain things very well with great drawings.

I dont know why, but I was expecting to meet with him in an office setting...across from a desk. I was completely wrong...and was put in a room to undress...and get checked out. He checked my heart beat, blood preassure, tummy, legs, feet...etc. He told me that my legs were strong. They also weighed me, of course. I hadnt gained any weight, but I havent lost any either. He gave me a sheet of paper that stated he wanted me to lose 20 pounds before surgery. I knew this was coming!

I am scheduled to meet with Doctor Rumsey next week (Sept.10) when I have my three appointments. I have heard good things about him from Pacific Bariatric patients in my local (Walnut Creek, CA) WLS support group who have had him do their surgeries.

Kaiser No. California has sent me to Pacific Bariatrics. I met Dr. Rumsey on June 4th and he seems like a very caring person. I decided to have him as a surgeon as I met him at the seminar and he seemed to be very caring. I wish we were able to talk to our surgeons one more time the day of surgery but I was told that I will not see him until post op. I think I will ask to see him one time before surgery. I was happy he was a Christian. I feel good about that. When I went to San Diego for my appointment it bothered me that he was WAY behind for his appointments. I heard it is because he spent time with his patients. I guess I will know more after surgery about his talent in the surgery area.

My first impression of Dr. Rumsey was that he was kind and very dedicated to his work. He was very thorough with his exam and explanations, offering me a chance to ask questions. He has a strict approach when it comes to following the program set forth by Pacific Bariatric -- which I can tell you now I am MOST grateful for. I followed the rules pre-op, had an extremely easy time with surgery, and recovery has been swift! I feel great! Dr. Rumsey's staff at Pacific Bariatric are an incredible bunch of people -- very caring and at the same time very business-like. They took care of so many details for me, and nothing ever got screwed up. I received every last piece of information I was supposed to receive, and all of my paperwork was in order from day one. Aftercare is a big deal to my doctor and his staff, and they go to great lengths to see that you have all the resources you need to do well post op. They are also very reachable if you do have a question or a problem. Overall I'd rate Dr. Rumsey a 10 -- he sincerely cares about his patients and is a very skilled surgeon. I am so glad I chose him!

My first impression of Dr Rumsey was nothing but positive. He was obviously terribly busy and walked through the waiting room rather hurridly. I was sitting there waiting for my name to be called. As he walked through he looked directly at every single person waiting there. He made direct eye contact and gave me a big reassuring smile (I was nervous and I think that showed).

Over time, my impression of him only got better. He walked in saying my name - I was sitting on the chair not on the table. The chair was kind of behind a drape so he couldn't see me when he walked in. He immediately called out my name - which made it obvious to me that he had looked at my history a bit before he came in. He wanted to know if I had anyone with me. When I told him that my husband is deployed with the Navy right now he asked about that and told me to tell him that if he had any questions or concerns, he would be happy to talk with him via phone or mail...which I thought was really thoughtful.

He answered questions, explained the procedure and the risks and patiently listened to me ramble on with my concerns.

He is very strict about the use of the protein drink before surgery and insists that i lose 15lbs before surgery. My BMI is 40.3 and based on profiles of patients I have read with BMI's all over the board, this is a standard request - so prepare for that.

There was NOTHING that I didn't like about him. He has at least 20 years of surgical experience and a great bedside manner - he exhibits both - and both are important to me because I want a very qualified surgeon who still views me as a human and not a science project - you know what i mean?

I will rate him once I have the surgery!

I liked Dr. Rumsey right off the bat. He wanted me to lose some weight before surgery which I wasn't too keen on. However, I realized it would be to my benefit and I worked on getting it off.

Dr. Rumsey was a great surgeon. My intial meeting with him he waited until my husband was in the room so he could hear all that was being said and how things where going to happen. Dr. Rumsey is a busy man, but the staff has always taken time to answer questions for me.

Dr. Rumsey was very nice and extremely informative and has a good bedside manner about him. The internist and phych staff and the office staff were wonderful, very inviting and friendly. Dr Rumsey did address all of the aftercare and risks of surgery. I have been to two of the seminars in Walnut Creek given by the Pacific Bariatrics group Dr's Tanaka and Zorn which were very informative and everything Dr. Rumsey went over with me re-inforced everything I already had read and heard in the seminars. If I had to rate on a 1-10 scale 10 being the best he would get a 8. Of course I will re-evaluate this score once I actually have the surgery (I'm sure it will be a 10) :) Thank you Dr. Rumsey!

My impression of Dr. Rumsey, was that he seemed very nice. He was also very caring and was able to answer all my questions. He asked me if I was there alone, and I told him my mom was with me so called her in and explained the surgery to her. He also answered all her questions. He told me I have to loose 25 pounds before the surgery. He talked to me about the risk of the surgery, and made sure that I understood what it involved.

Dr. Rumsey seems great. He was soft spoken and answered all my questions. I know I am in good hands.
I will have to loose about 35 pounds prior to surgery, but I expected it because I had gained since the seminar. He told me I would be scheduled for surgery for end of June beginning of July.
