The very first time I met Dr. Rumsey I was still very scared and still wondering if I was doing the "right" thing. I had never had any kind of medical procedure so I was frightened. Dr. Rumsey made me feel very at ease. I felt he was very skilled in his profession. After meeting Dr. Rumsey, I wasn't scared anymore and I could have had surgery the very next day. I had confidence that I was in good hands. I feel I went to one of the best places for this type of program. I developed a small problem with drainage after 3 weeks, I called the on call surgeon (Dr. Zorn) on a Sunday morning. I was impressed to be talking to a Dr. after 15-20 mins. of my call.
HE WAS VERY FRIENDLY, AND SPOKE TO ME IN SUCH A KIND WAY I WASN'T NERVOUS. I HAVE FOUND THAT HE ALWAYS RUNS LATE BUT THAT'S BECAUSE HE TAKES TIME WITH HIS PATIENTS. HIS STAFF IS GREAT, WILLING TO HELP IN ANY WAY. I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS. HE WILL NOT SUGAR COAT HIS DIAGNOSIS, IF HE CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE HE WILL TELL YOU JUST THAT. YOU MUST FOLLOW WHAT HE TELLS YOU TO DO YOU WILL BE GIVEN LOTS OF MATERIALS TO READ AND YOU NEED TO READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL OF IT. IF THERE'S SOMETHING YOU NOT CLEAR ABOUT ASK. RISKS WERE COVERED IN THE MATERIAL YO ARE GIVEN AND AGAIN AT YOUR PRE-OP. HE'S A 10 IN MY BOOK BOTH AS A SURGEON AND AS A PERSON.
Dr. Eugene Rumsey is a surgeon for Pacific Bariatric located in San Diego, CA. He was very friendly, informative, and caring. I did not feel rushed at all. I have so far had only one meeting with Dr. Rumsey.
The staff at Pacific Bariatric is WONDERFUL. The ladies in the office were so patient, informative and caring...I could not have made it through all of this without the support of Lorena, Jobie and Rosie. The reason I chose this particular group is because of their aftercare program and the informative lectures and support groups they offer for the rest of your life. They are totally up front and honest with you. You have to attend a lecture, take a written exam, meet with a surgeon, and a psychiatrist to determine your eligibility for the program. All of the risks were addressed. Since I am pre-op, I don't have any information on bedside manner as of yet, but will fill you in when I do!!
Well, I had my surgery and I LOVE Dr. Rumsey! Not only is he an awsome surgeon but he is a wonderful person. Everyday he would come and sit on my bed, hold my hand and reassure me that I am going to feel great, look great and be healthy soon. Many nurses told me that he was their surgeon and only had wonderful things to say about him.
Dr. Rumsey was informative, friendly and patient. He spoke and listened and made me feel very comfortable. I read many posts about him before I met him. He is a very good surgeon that is part of Pacific Bariatric Surgery Group as well as Hillcrest Surgery Group. He is one of 4 surgeons. Their group has performed over 2,500 RNY surgeries with a less than 1% mortality rate. They have a wonderful aftercare program with nurse that can be reached 24 hrs a day, several support groups throughout California, and an annual gathering of all their patients. Wonderful, caring doctor and staff.
He was nice. We had our screaming children with us during the consultation and he was very patient and kind with them. Our baby was just learning to walk and falling all over his office. He didn't seem to mind. He had a sense of humor and was very confident. When I left he told me he'd see me in surgery!
Dr Rumsey was very kind and undersanding and I found him to be very caring to make me and my family comfortable.
He is very considerate and caring.
His staff is well trained and many are also WLS Patients.
He did my Internal Medicine doctors surgery also. I feel if another doctor chooses a doctor that is a good one to go to also.
He has the staff at the Hospital well trained to take care of Bariactric patients. Which is a needed plus for Post-op care.
Pacific Bariactrics offers a support group and excercise program for Patients in the San Diego Area.
The Risk factors are clearly addressed in a open meeting and then in paper work given and in person by the doctor.
I think he has both surgical competence and great bedside manner. He is compassionate.
Dr. Rumsey is part of the Pacific Bariatic Medical Group in San Diego,CA. Dr. Rumsey was very personable and did an excellent job on my surgery. I like him very much. He and the other staff were very nice and helpful to me. I was fully informed of what I was getting in to prior to surgery. I was told of all the pros and cons. Nothing went unsaid. I was well informed of what I could and could not eat from the moment surgery took place to the rest of my life. There is a support group to attend that meets once a month. The care while in the hospital was excellent. I don't think I could have had a better experience. I think bedside manner and competence are both needed and Dr. Rumsey has both. The surgery is not pain free. A friend of mine told me there was no pain and boy was I shocked. There is pain, but it was worth it for me.
I really liked Dr. Rumsey from the start. He was very kind and gentle with my fears and was very possitive. He told me what to ezpect and that he would make sure that I would have a pleasant experience. My impression never changed of him, it grew. This may sound funny or strange but I like Drs. with a good bed side manner and Dr. Rumsey had good one. This was my first surgery I have ever had and all the nurses and Drs. that took care of me were AWESOME!!!!!!
He took the time at my first follow up visit to explain the risks and challenges I might face in the days ahead.. That helped me alot because I am now prepared and know what to watch for, as far as trouble signs.
I would give Dr. Rumsey on a scale of 1-10 a 10. He was very competent about the surgery and had an awesome bed side manner.
Pacific Bariatric has a very good staff of doctors and office help. Dr. Rumsey sat with me and described the surgery in detail and all the possible complications. He was very friendly and did a complete exam of me. He was very emphatic that I quit smoking before my surgery and that helped me to quit that day. He encouraged me to reach out to other patients in support groups.
My step-sister had the same surgery by a different doctor and was given almost no aftercare advice and education.
Post-op
During my stay in the hospital he was very encouraging by telling myself and my family that the surgery went perfectly and that I was doing excellent.
