I appreciated Dr. Rumsey's straightforwardness. He was compassionate but not gooey. He came to see us before surgery and seemed to be genuine in his concern and cheer. He sought out my husband after I had gone injust before he went in to perform the surgery just to let him know how well it would go. I appreciate Dr. Rumsey very much.
Dr. Rumsey was so awesome, He's the first doctor, besides my promary care phasycian who i felt cared about me. He hugs me. and his face brightens up when i am in the room. Now i only notice this because i have had doctors in the past examine me from the door way and never once even look me in the face. I have had no complications other then a fever that resolved it self postoperativly. So his technique has to be perfect.=) But he made me feel special and caredfor. That I was someone WORTH saving. to a large person Worth is always an issue. Dr. Rumsey is in the right business. I thank God I was placed in his hands I have a new life now. Thank you Dr. Rumsey for your spirit and answering your calling.=)No i have NOTHIG NEGATIVE to say about him.
When I frist met with my Doctor he was the most postive person I had met and he told me how much I would benefit from having the surgrey and the staff at the hospital was wonderful. When it was time fro me to get out of the hospital he gave me really good advice to take home with me I really like the program and my surgeon was over all great.
I liked Dr. Rumsey from the moment I met him. He put me at ease and made me feel comfortable during our visit. He has a wonderful bedside manner and humorous personality. No question was to small or to stupid for him to answer in just his charming way. He makes sure that you follow all that you must do, he has his staff or himself call you if you have questions before or after surgery. I am a far distance from San Diego to see him, but he does come up to Bakersfield so I schedule my appts. to him there, I like that fact, he does not leave you ever. He will be there for me always. I consider him my Guardian Angel because without him I don't think I would be here much longer. I can't think of anything about him that I don't like. He is my HERO! If I have to say something negative is that he pulls no punches with you and doesn't let you get away with anything, you can't pull the wool over his eyes he knows all. How I don't know but he does.
I just wanted to let you all know that my trip to Pacific Bariatrics, in San Diego, went very well. WooHoo! I saw an internist, psychiatrist, and the surgeon who will be doing my “roux-en-y” surgery. All three doctors pronounced me an excellent candidate for the surgery.
I arrived early for my three appointments and waited in the main waiting room. I was able to figure out who Dr. Rumsey was and watch him flit in and out of the office. I got to visit with several patients in various stages of WLS and heard only glowing reports of their journeys and Dr. Rumsey specdifically.
Well so far, I have to agree with them! I really loved Dr. Rumsey! He was running late (which I understand is typical!) but he was very thorough and graciously stepped out of the room and gave me the privacy to get dressed. Then he came back in to discuss the surgery and patiently answered all my questions. In spite of the fact that I had already been to the informational lecture, he went over all the same information with me personally, including the specific risks of surgery and all the possible complications.
He stressed the fact that WLS is a tool and compared my failed weight loss attempts to a carpenter with a handful of nails who had only his fist to pound them into a wall. He believes that WLS is only a tool - (A hammer - if you will!) NOT a miracle cure! He emphasized appropriate eating afterwards, exercise, water, and vitamins as a vital part of the aftercare program.
I found him to be very tolerant of my three pages of questions! Although, I do think that perhaps I referred to the AMOS board as my resource - at least ONE time too many!
I didn't like the fact that his staff didn't introduce themselves to me. The medical assistant who took me back kind of ignored me, while writing in my chart, and continued an in-progress conversation with a coworker, which made me feel like I was supposed to pretend to be invisible.
The front desk seemed to be very busy and a bit abrupt - when I first arrived, but they warmed up and chatted with me later in the afternoon, when I asked to meet my patient coordinator, Myla. I should hear from her in the next few weeks and be given my surgery date. I’m guessing that it will end up being sometime in late October.
I believe that Dr. Rumsey is an excellent surgeon and I'm really impressed with his personal record of low complications. He made me feel very comfortable, answered all my questions, and I feel confident that I've made a good decision in choosing him. I guess that time will tell the tale in the end!
Dr. Rumsey appears a bit shy at your first meeting but he really cares about morbidly obese patients as do all the fine doctors at Pacific Bariatric. The surgery was top notch and he visited the next day and said everything was fine. The office staff at the reception window is a bit unfriendly and getting appointments set up can take quite a while, however, they are very busy. Aftercare is very important and laid out so you understand what is expected, they also have lots of support groups which we are hightly encouraged to attend. The risks of surgery were clearly covered. I would rate Dr. Rumsey a resounding 10 on competance and bedside manner, he definitely has my vote!!
