Dr Boe made a lasting impression on me the first time I met him. My daughter and I went to the consult together - we both were investigating bariatric surgery. Dr Boe spent over an hour and a half with us, answering every question imaginable, and never once did he make us feel unimportant or that he would rather be somewhere else.
His nursing/support staff is awesome. I had major difficulties with some hygiene issues after surgery and his staff was tremendous. They never made me feel belittled, even though I was in an embarrassing situation. One nurse even took the time to rub lotion on my back and feet because they were so dry, and I know they were very busy.
May Hoffman is the patient support person in Dr Boe's office. She is a phenomenal person. My daughter had surgery 2 weeks before I did. We were waiting for the surgical nurse to come and get her when I had to step out of the room for a moment. Of course, that is when they came and she was gone before I got back. I didn't get to say good luck or give her a kiss. May made one phone call and managed to get me into the preop room where they were hooking her up to IV's and prepping her for surgery. I got to get in my final kiss and calm her down a bit. How awesome is that????? I was having trouble getting in touch with the person who schedules the surgeries. After leaving messages for 2 weeks, I contacted May and she sat down at her computer and the next thing I know, I had a date for 2 weeks later. She also managed to make arrangements for me to have my preop testing the same day I took my daughter home, so I wouldn't have to make the 2 hour trip again in a few days.
Dr Boe's clerical staff does need a little work. They are not very expedient in filling out or forwarding insurance paperwork after surgery (short-term disability paperwork). They lost my daughter's forms the first time, which resulted in the delay of her benefits. It took them over 2 weeks to send some of my paperwork back to my employer. You just have to have an active hand in the paperwork end and keep reminding them.
Dr Boe has a very structured aftercare program. You meet with a dietician before you leave the hospital and you have scheduled follow-up appointments. Every so often, they will even call you at home to see how you are doing.
Dr Boe has an excellent bedside manner. When I had my surgery, my daughter couldn't be there with me, because she was newly post-op and couldn't make the trip. Dr Boe, himself, called her after my surgery to let her know that everything had gone well. I don't know of too many surgeons that would've made that call themselves. I also had a lot of pain issues after surgery and he made it a point to check in on me frequently and made every effort to eliminate the pain. He does not like to see his patients in pain at all. He also is the only doctor at the BTC who will allow his patients to have ice chips almost immediately after surgery, which is a godsend, believe-you-me.
I have such confidence in Dr Boe that I have referred him to friends of mine. I even went with one of my friends to his consult, and Dr Boe was just as excellent with him and he was with my daughter and I. My friend was debating between a couple of different facilities, but after meeting Dr Boe and May and the rest of the staff, has decided to go with the BTC for his surgery.
He is extremely professional and a wonderful surgeon. He takes time to listen and discuss any issues I have when I meet with him. Before surgery he answered all of my questions very thoroughly and put my husband (who was very nervous) at ease. BTC has a very structured pre and post program and it is as wonderful as Dr. Boe is. I wish he could be my general doctor.
Dr. Boe was a very friendly, kind man. He answered all of the questions my husband and I had. He took time with us and showed that he cared. The office staff was wonderful, I never felt like a bother, they helped when I asked. Dr. Boe emphasized after care a lot. He let me know that the surgery does not work by itself. Dr. boe explained the risks of the surgery in relation to the questions that I asked. He did not frighten me with statistics and responded when I needed him to. I think that surgical competence and bedside manner are equally inportant when you are going through a major surgery like this one.
I met with Dr. Boe yesterday. He was a very nice, caring person. I feel very comfortable with him as my surgeon. He was personable, and not just talking medical information with me. He asked about my job, and other personal information. I felt like he wnated to know me as his patient, and that I was not just another surgery for him. I would reccommend him to anyone.
I have only met with Dr. Boe once at the consultation. He was very nice, made me feel at ease, answered every single question I had and more. He really took his time and didn't rush me. He made me feel like I was his only patient that day and if I needed, he would answer questions all day. Once I left the office, I knew that this surgery was for me. (even though I am still nervous)
Our first impression of Dr. Boe was GREAT! He was very personable and willing to answer all our questions. He went out of his way to make a connection (mathmatical even!)with my husband so that he was comfortable. Dr. Boe was knowledgable and able to explain things clearly in laymans terms.
He works at BTC in Belvidere IL. I liked the people.
May Hoffman is a patient counselor there and had the surgery 4 years ago. She was kind, patient and willing to share from her personal experience.
My overall rating at this point is a 10 out of 10.
Dr. Boe seemed very kind as well as very knowlegeable. My wife says he has a great bedside manner. He allows you to have ice chips right away if you can tolerate them, unlike some of the physicians. He did my wifes surgery and I was a little dissapointed in his cutting. The incision is not straight down the middle like I was told it would be. he and I will have a discussion about this before my surgery.
My first impression of Dr. Boe was very positive. He was very nice and seemed very gentle. At our initial appointment he came in to speak to me and my husband who is having the surgery also. Dr. Boe asked us how much we knew and then elaborated on the details of the surgery and several after care topics like food, hair loss, risks, sex, and pregnancy. He even talked about how much blood is lost during a typical surgery. I felt very comfortable asking him questions because he didn't make me feel like any of them were outrageous or stupid. The office staff was also very nice. I have a good friend who works as a patient counselor so that may have had something to do with it. The person who took all of our vitals and other basic info was a little too talkative about herself and less interested in us. Dr. Boe is part of the Bariatric Treatment centers and does have a pretty structured aftercare program. I feel good about the surgeon that I have chosen. I had a little inside help from my friend that works there who, by the way had the surgery herself with a different surgeon who works in the same facility. Dr. Boe was recommended by her over her own surgeon. So far my experience with Dr. Boe has been great. He portrays a sense of confidence in what he does and the people he works with seem to have the same confidence. I give Dr. Boe a 9 out 10 so far...guess we will know better this weekend when the surgery takes place! Most of my issues or obstacles that I have run into are related to my patient counselor not calling me back several times when I left a message, and then the scheduler did not call me back three different times when I was waiting to be scheduled. There seems to be a problem with returning phone calls in that facility.
Very good Doctor , He talked about how the surgery was going to be peformed and what to expect after surgery. answered all questions that we had asked .His staff at the office in shaumberg was very friendly and helpful .That answered any questions that we had about getting papers filled out that need to be like FLMA ( family medical leave forms ), getting reports faxed to them from my PCP.
Haven't had the surgery yet so I don't know what his bed side manner is like, but he seems very qualified in this type of surgery.
