Surgical Weight Loss Center at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital Bariatric Center
I am very pleased with my surgeon as well as my surgery results. After having the lap band procedure done Jan 30th 2008. I would say that Dr. Balette is the best surgeon I know. Dr. Balette is a personal physician that really cares about his patients and their well being. He showed me that when I had a problem with my restriction and he came to his office on a Sunday morning at 8am just to readjust my band. He is really great and I would recommend him to anyone.
My surgeon is Dr. Jason Balette at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, The Woodlands, TX. This is a fairly new program, but I knew I was in very capable hands. So much so that I was perfectly comfortable with being the first RNY performed at that facility. Let me start by saying from the first meeting I knew that this was the surgeon for me. He is a very compassionate and caring person, and never have I felt rushed at any visit. His seminar was very informative and gives information on both the LapBand and RNY procedures. I was already working with another surgeon preparing for LapBand surgery, but I was so glad that I went to Dr. Balette's seminar. Not only did I leave there with some great information, but also I found that RNY was a better option for me personally. Though I will say that there was not pressure from Dr. Balette in either direction. He gives you the information and will answer any question you have to help you make the right INFORMED decision that is best for you. He took time going over the consents with me and making sure I new everything I could expect and all the risks for the procedure. The office staff are all amazing! I always feel my calls are important and are handled very promptly. His nurse and assistants have always answered my concerns quickly and let me know that my needs are important to them. I have enjoyed sharing my progress with all of them and sometimes I wonder who gets more excited by my progress....me or them? :) This whole experience has been great, and Dr. Balette has been there every step of the way. Although there were times I felt I might be having too many questions are concerns, he has always been there to answer them and not once have I ever felt that a single concern was not important to him. I feel that this surgery has not only changed my life, but more importantly SAVED my life. I cannot believe the energy level I have and how great I feel! Things have changed so much for my family, and I can now enjoy life with my two young children. I feel that I have Dr. Balette to thank for that and could not have picked a better surgeon!
My first impression was he knew what he was talking about. That he has a lot of patiens and not everyone is the same or has the same reactions to the surgery. His office staff was ok. I least liked that he wouldnt listen to me as a person and to know that I had reasons for telling him things. No afercare program other tahn follow diet plan and come back at certain times. He did tell me all the risks of the surgery. He is a very good surgeon. Lacking on the bedside manner a bit.
Dr. Turnquest was very professional and very informative. He told me I would probably lose 100 lbs. and weigh in around 155 lbs. He was right on target! Initially I lost 130 lbs but I looked and felt awful. Unfortunately, I moved very far away and was not able to attend the aftercare meetings he told me about. I've \"winged it\" but I have always stayed in touch with Dr. Turnquest by e-mail. He does answer e-mails and I do appreciate this! I've lived as far away as Hawaii and e-mailed him questions and he has replied within a few days! I think he is a great surgeon and well respected by my gastro dr. who referred me to him. His record was clean when I checked him over the Internet and in speaking with his patients. He is primarily a surgeon first so he sees everyone for anything and everything involving surgery. He had done approximately 40 RNYs when I saw him but since I am now 5 yrs out I am sure he has done many. I know of a woman who still sees him on occasion and she is at least 4 yrs out. He is a wonderful doctor in my eyes.
I really like Dr. Sherman. rnrnI liked him the first time I listened to him at the informational session. Then, when I met with him to discuss the surgery otpions, I really felt like he was sensitive to me and willing to go through my options and hear my concerns. rnrnThe wait can be a bit tedious since he is part of a teaching program (Baylor College of Medicine), usually there are several people that visit with you prior to actually seeing the doctor. I don't mind this too much, but you should be aware of this b/c it can lenthen your appointments.rnrnrn3/19/2008rnNow that I have had my surgery...which I have been so blessed to have had a very easy recovery...I am even more grateful to Dr. Sherman and his team. I think he is very thorough and knowledgeable. I appreciated the fellows/residents that came by to my hospital room to answer all of my questions. They were willing to answer anything I asked and that is very important to me. rnrnDr. Sherman is very kind and sensitive to his patients. I appreciate his gentle nature and I like him more each time I talk with him.
My first impression of Dr Sherman was that he was young and nice looking. LOL It has changed in that he is also very compassionate and patient and he truly cares about his patients and their success.rnrnAftercare is strictly emphasized by Dr Sherman from day one. He gives you the tool but you must do exactly what he tells you to do after getting that tool. Such as exercise, eating right and drinking water and taking your vitamins. rnrnThe office staff is phenomenal. The nutritionist that I used was Sabrina. She was great! She would call back on the phone the same day or email back the same day. The rest of the staff is really great also. They are very excited for your new life and I look forward to my visits with them. rnrnOverall I would rate Dr Sherman and his office staff as exceptional. I would definitely recommend them to my family and friends and that is a big recommendation.rnrnDr Sherman has a great bedside manner but he is also a competent surgeon. I think that he does both well.
