I found Dr. Choi to be very personable. She is friendly and makes you feel at ease. Her staff is very outgoing, yet very professional. They don't seem to forget anything. I have asked several doctors about Dr. Choi and without fail she gets rave reviews and, in fact, a couple said that if they needed surgery, she would be the surgeon they would choose. I feel very comfortable with my decision to have her perform my RNY. Once I am operated on this coming Monday (August 9, 2010), I will try to remember to update this, but so far so good.

UPDATE: Almost 3 weeks post op...
The surgery could not have gone better. Dr. Choi saw me before I went in and I was very calm and comfortable. She has a really amazing bedside manner. She explained what would happen, joked around a bit and made me feel ready. Everyone at the hospital thinks she is great. They use terms like "very efficient", "like a machine", "excellent surgeon". She came to see me the day after the surgery and was again very supportive.

The only slight negative is that Danbury Hospital is a teaching hospital and the residents tended to be somewhat clueless. They come around in a group and check on you. One does the talking while the others observe. One tried to put me back on my oral meds for blood pressure that are huge. Much bigger than an M&M. I explained the size and he said there is no size restriction on pills. His colleague immediately corrected him, but that is the kind of thing I saw. I just ignored them and cleared things with Dr. Choi and my nurses. They were harmless students so I wasn't concerned.

Post op I am doing really well and have absolutely zero problems. My cuts are very small (1/2 inch or less for 3 of them and 3/4 inch for the other 2). All are healing nicely. I would recommend Dr. Choi 110%.

Dr. Choi was the nicest bariatric surgeon I met when I was looking into the surgery. I took each of the meetings I attended as me interviewing the surgeons, many were pompous and arrogant, and frankly my life is not to be in the hands of a doctor who feels that they are infallible. She has seen me through the lap band and now the RNY. She is kind, considerate, and concerned with patient care.

Great Bedside Manner, very knowledgable and helpful, cares about your success... more to come.

My first impression of Dr. Balette was "Wow, what a kind, person." I met Dr. Balette at the hospital where I work, St Luke's The Woodlands. He came up to check on his patient that was admitted to our unit. His patient care and bed side manner is top notch, and he treated the nursing staff wonderfully as well.
When I looked into WLS I was pleased to find that he did the procedures that I was interested in. He is very knowledgeable and caring. His office staff is also great. I didn't have to wait long to be seen, and his nurse always took my calls immediately or called me back with in an hour. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor!

My first impression of Dr. Reardon is that he is very confident, knows what needs to be done, and gets it done. My impression of him has not changed. My surgery was almost two weeks ago, thankfully all went well. He spoke with my family after the surgery, explained what he had done and why it was done. He then checked on me once or twice throughout my hospital stay, but his surgery fellows/residents also checked on me.

I am not real sure about his aftercare program, I am signed up with the Methodist Hospital to attend classes there post-op so that is not an issue.

I would say if I had to pick one....surgical competence would be prefered over bedside manner........however, he had both, which is great.

Dr. Choi was highly recommended to me, and I had heard really glowing reports as well; from her expertise as a surgeon to her sympathy and excellent bedside manner. She is very knowledgeable, understanding yet firm. I was extremely impressed.rnThe office staff as well are helpful, understanding and very supportive. She emphasized every aspect of the sugery from the before care/work to the after care including diet, excercise and support groups.

Dr. Vadim Sherman and his staff were the perfect choice for me or anyone considering weight loss surgery. I think Dr. Sherman is so compassionate and professional and extremely talented. His staff are on top of their game and assisted me through every step of this process. I could not have asked for a better doctor. I was in safe hands and feel blessed to have been led to him and his wonderful team.

Dr. Sherman is a very nice man. He is polite and has a nice smile making you feel at ease the moment you meet him. I have only met with him a few times, but he always seems to really care about me. The staff in his office is like a well oiled machine. Each staff member has their specific roles and they work together like a well oiled machine. They are all very nice as well.rnrnI think that in the Houston area since there are many physicians that do WLS, you should do your homework and find a program and doctor that suite your needs. I personally like the preparation that Dr. Sherman's office puts you through and although I haven't experienced the aftercare yet, I do think I will appreciate it just as much.rnrnToday (8/11) I met with the nutritionist and the nurse practitioner to go over what is expected the 2 weeks before surgery and then what is expected after surgery. The class was very informative and lasted about 3.5 hours. I am really seeing this come to fruition and can't wait to start my new life post WLS.rnrnI highly recommend that if you are thinking about WLS, attend one of the informational seminars at Baylor College of Medicine to meet Dr. Sherman and his staff. Listen to what they have to say and if you feel this program is for you, GO FOR IT!

Dr. Vadim Sherman is very professional and kind. His office staff is very understanding and helpful. Patients should know that he stresses to you that you will have to make a life long commitment to this. You have to learn to eat slow and chew your food very good. He stresses this to you over and over. You attend a nutritional class before surgery to tell you what to expect from eating to taking your medications. He does tell you all the risks of surgery and being put to sleep. You will have to have test before the surgery such as an Upper GI, Chest X-Ray, Blood, etc. His surgery competence is great and he proforms about 10 a week. Be sure if you are on any medications to let him know. He will instruct you about them. I will have to cut or crush all my meds up tiny now before I can take them. This is one real draw back for me. You are put on a liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery also. This helps to get you use to liquids and helps reduce your liver size for surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Turnquest was very positive. He is a laid back, funny, personable man. Over time, I have grown to like him more. He always makes me feel at ease, and answers all of my questions. His staff is pretty cool. He sees alot of patients, and somehow they know everyone's name. You do not just feel like another patient, but a part of a family. New/future patients should know that he sees ALOT of patients so to call and get an appointment early because his schedule fills up VERY quickly. rnrnDr. Turnquest and his staff stress the importance of following aftercare procedures and attending your scheduled appointments. He works with the \"Well Beginnings\" weight loss center at Houston NW Medical Center, and they are an integral part of the aftercare process. His motto is that you \"are a patient for life\" because he encourages his patients to keep in touch with him, even after they have reached their weightloss goal. rnrnDr. Turnquest has a 0 mortality rate, and was voted the best bariatric surgeon in North Houston. He has received numerous awards and accolades since he has been performing bariatric surgery. Dr. Turnquest is well known by many doctors in Houston, and comes HIGHLY recommended.rnrnDr. Turnquest informs all of his patients about the risk of surgery, as well as the risks of not having surgery. He makes sure that all of his patients are wll informed, however there is no substitute for your own research. rnrnOverall I would rate Dr. Turnquest a 10 on a scale from 1-10. He is simply MARVELOUS!
