Northside Hospital of Atlanta Bariatric Center
I've only had my 1st interview with Dr. Robert (still have my official pre-op and then the surgery to go), but I was impressed with him from the get-go.
I had originally been expecting Dr. Proctor, the senior doctor, since that was who I thought I had made the appt. with, and was a little dissappointed to find out it wasn't him; especially since Dr. Proctor was whom I had been checking out. But Dr. Robert put me at ease. He had been a physician in the air force (I think - one of the armed forces, my papers aren't right in front of me) and that always impresses me, because military training is some excellent training past med school.
Of course he was this very in shape, thin guy; so I wanted to know why, coming out of the military, would he be interested in this type of surgery. He said he had seen people struggling with weight gain, even in the military, and the side effects of it, and he thought this was one of the best ways he could use his skills to help ( my paraphrasing, but the basic gist.) I was impressed.
About 1/4 of their nursing and support staff has had gastric bypass surgery, including their "liason" who helps set things up between all the different doctor's, hospitals, and other appt.s; so the staff is very helpful. They also have two physicians who concentrate solely on vascular disease, so not all patients in the office are GBS, so that's a little unnerving, but not too bad.
Although Dr. Proctor has struggled with his weight (not to the point of surgery), Dr. Richard is very fit, so I'm not sure he can completely empathize with the patient, but he is very kind and respectful.
They are very strict about their aftercare program, requiring a signed contract that you will attend weekly groups support meetings and monthly follow-up visits for the first year.
They have one policy that I am unsure of; they will not operate on someone who is a smoker. This is Dr. Proctor's edict. He says there is no sense in operating on someone for the #2 leading cause of death in the US, if they are going to keep right on doing the #1 cause of death in the US. At first I was like "You go, boy!", because my Dad smokes AND needs this surgery, and I thought this would make him give up his cigarettes. Well, it backfired, it just made him decide he didn't want the surgery, because obviously the doctors didn't care about how much pain he was in. So I'm still trying to decide on that one.
My first impression of Dr. John Daly was that he was very intelligent. He seemed to care about me even though we were meeting for the first time. What I liked best was that he told me that I was a candidate for this type of surgery. My impression has changed in the fact that his office continues to be very supportive. They have been bending over backwards to get me approved through my insurance company. Tammy is great. She practically runs the office! She does a great job. The thing that I liked least about him was the wait time in the office. However that let me know that if there were so many people entrusting their life to him, I had the right surgeon! He also took enough time with me. He explainedthe entire process and was very patient when I had questions. He makes you sign a contract that ensures that you will come to his followup appointments. He follows his patients for 5-10 years post op. WOW! Dr. Daly is a top notch surgeon in my opinion! I haven't even had my surgery yet and I am completely sold. My date is January 19,2006.
I LIKED WHAT DR.HART IN THE TIME THAT I HAVE SPOKE WITH HIM. I LOVED HIS OFFICE. THE RECEPTIONIST ALWAYS HAS A SMILE. MILDRED IS ALWAYS THERE TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS - KNOW MATTER H0W WEIRD THEY ARE. IF SHE IS NOT AVAILABLE, SHE ALWAYS RETURNS MY MESSAGES. RACHEAL THE NUTRITIONIST WAS AWESOME!!!! SHE IS SO SWEET AND SHE NEVER MAKES ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE OR LESS OF A PERSON BECAUSE I HAVE A WEIGHT PROBLEM ( LIKE ALOT OF PEOPLE CAN DO) THE WHOLE OFFICE IS VERY SUPPORTIVE AND ALWAYS STRESS WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE, THE REASON BEHIND ALL OF THE TESTING ETC.., AND RISKS IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE RULES.
OVERALL = A++++++
THE ONLY THING I WOULD LIKE WOULD BE MORE TIME TO SPEAK TO DR.HART ONE ON ONE IN THE BEGINING AND THROUGH THE PROCESS.
I love everyone at their office. Amanda and Mildred are super helpful and believe me, I was high maintenance! lol...
Dr. Hart is strict with the rules for our own good, but he has a great sense of humor! He does this job for the people and how it changes their lives. They have definitely changed mine and I don't think the experience could be any better. (Although I think the process could move faster.)
Dr. Williams was great. On my first meeting with him he took the time to answer all my questions and put me at ease. He has a great bed side manner. And my opinion of him never changed. He was wonderful. I had surgery on Friday Feb. 4, 2005 and almost everytime I woke up he was there checking on me. The nurses says he checks on his patients like that and calls them all the time checking. I would recommend Dr. Williams to anyone that needs this surgry. His office staff is also very friendly anytime you call and they take the time to answer all questions no matter how dumb you may think the questions are. Anyone can contact me if they are considering using Dr. Williams and I will tell them how wonderful he is.
I have not had a problem with my surgery at all and realize that I am one of the lucky ones. I have lost 96 pounds to date (11-4-05) so everything is going great.
Love Dr. Williams
