Central California Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
I must say I met Dr. Coates a week before my surgery and I felt very comfortable with him, he's the talk of the town and sure delivers. I had my surgery on 11/7/7 and I was very nervous. I had my surgery everything went well, he even speaks a little Spanish :) At my pre-op appt, he was very honest and up front. Future patients need to feel confident that they are in good hands. They have a lot of aftercare information and believe me before you're going into surgery, you have a great idea as to what to expect. I think both are great! He's a pretty laid back kind of man, THAT REALLY KNOWS HIS JOB, AND THE BEDISE MANNER WAS GREAT!!! I'm very happy and i thank God for Dr. Coates. If you have been considering having the Roux & Y surgery and have any questions or concerns, don't wait. Give his office a call, they're very friendly and very knowleadgeable. tell them Nora sent yourn
This is MY pre-op experience so far (surgery scheduled for 10/11/07.)rnrnIN SUMMARY: I would recommend Dr Coates if you are pro-active and willing to follow-up w/the office staff and a close relationship w/the surgeon isn't important to you. Pre-op education is great.rnrnIN DETAIL: The whole process from going to the first seminar to getting approved felt a little like an assembly line. The office staff is friendly and were helpful but only after a little prodding from me. I have never received a single follow-up call; they'd say they would call back but never would. They also mis-placed paperwork twice. I called and they claimed they hadn't received it. I confirmed it had been sent and, after further searching, the office staff found it. rnrnI was told I couldn't meet Dr Coates until my pre-op appointment. I think it would be hard to choose a surgeon without meeting him/her face to face first. Luckily, Dr Coates had assisted on my back surgery a few years ago and I had a chance to meet him then. (I really liked him; friendly and straight forward.) If it hadn't been for the prior meeting, I would have looked for a more accessible Dr. My final decision to go w/Dr. Coates was based on his skill/high success rate.rnrnThe pre-op education conducted by Memorial Hospital Health Group is really good.rnrn
My first of impression of him was he was very informative and then very funny. Then I seen him 2 minutes before surgery and 2 minutes twice after and thats it. Everything else is done by his Physicans Ass. And she is great and I assume its because he does surgeries back to back all day and some follow-up in the morning with patients but it would have been nicer to have had a bit more of his attention. I think he has a great office staff...I think that they are very busy cause there are so many people that are in process of having this done that they are spead a little thin but...with a couple of phone calls to keep you on the forefront of their minds its all good. I would defintely refer patients to him and infact my hubby and niece will be seeing him and hopefully having the gastric as well. They have a wonderful before and after program to set up up for sucess. And I think that he definetly pounds the risks of the surgery in your head so you know what your up against...but realisticly speaking most prolems occur from people not taking their vitamins and keeping themselves well hydrated and thats what can lead to death. ( Just do as your told and take care of yourself and the rest is a cinch.) I would rate Dr. Coirin a 10...he is the most capable doctor I know and in the short time I spent with him he was pheonominal.
Havent meet him yet
I officially met Dr. Coates on Friday, July 20, 06 for my pre-op appointment. He was very down to earth and listen to my concerns. He advise me of the risk with the surgery but he made me comfortable with him performing the surgery. Due to a previous surgery I had performed he advise me that he will have to take a little longer for the procedure. The office staff are great! we had a wonderful time.
I was an employee at DHM in Manteca Ca. Back in 2002, when he first started to do the wls. Watching him with his patients was wounderful. Such a great beside manner. rnrnI had no comps. and went home in two days. Office staff are great. They have a wounderful aftercare and before. Over all A+++++++++++++++++. Great Doc.
I had my surgery May 4, 2006. I weighed 274 lbs. and wore a size 24. It has now been a lil over a year and I am down to a size 3 and weigh an amazing 124 lbs. Although I had a tough time the first 6-8 months its all worth it at the end. I dont have diabetes or hypertnsion anymore and a lot less back pain. My surgeon (Dr Coates) was great and so is his staff. They are very coopertive and help answer questions. I luv the Dr's PA Diane, she is awesome and very attentive. I am able to enjoy life and my kids a lot more now. It's so much easier to find clothes especially on sale. Its hard to imagine that 1yr ago I was in such agony and pain, emotionally and physically. I was very lucky not to have all the droopy skin after this surgery, but regardless nothing a little plastic surgery cant fix. I recommend the surgery to anyone who is thinking about it that is eligible for it and might be having second thoughts about it. We are more at risk being morbidly obese then going thru the actual procedure. This surgery will definately change your life! It did mine! Thank You Dr. Coates and all your staff.
