Central California Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
I haven't had the opportunity to meet Dr Coates yet. Unfortunatley he was on vacation when I attended the WLS seminar. I did however meet one of his PA's Darryl and he was very nice and very informative. I have been impressed by the staff at Dr Coates office so far. They have been extremely helpful and very patient with me. I look forward to meeting Dr Coates soon!
I have not met Dr. Coates at this point. From what I hear, he does not meet personally with his patients until just prior to surgery, I expect to meet with a P.A. when I have my consult later this week. Also, I have heard that his office is very disorganized and that you have to stay on top of them to make sure that things are getting done (such as paper work submitted to insurance co, etc.), yet to be fair this is hearsay at this point, so far from personal experience I have made one phone call to their office and the person I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. They were even able to find the paperwork that I had turned in at a seminar several months ago, which I was assuming had been lost by now. So, since I don't have high expections from everything I have heard, I have less of a chance of being dissapointed. I have heard that he is an excellent surgeon and that, afterall is what is most important.
Update! - I had my consult today, with Dr. Coates's P.A. (as expected). I must say that I was pleasantly surprised, I didn't have to wait as long as I was anticipating, the girls in the office were all friendly and helpful (especially Jessica!) Possibly with the exception of the girl that measured me and insisted that I was only 5'3"! I've been 5'4 1/2" for the past 30 years...Only complaint would be that Dr. Coates doesn't meet with you personally...but I was expecting that going in.
my surgeon was dr. patrick coates.
the first thing i had to do before i even had my consult was to attend a seminar given by dr. coates, where all of my questions were answered and a lot of very good info was given, that's when i made my decision to go ahead with the surgery.i thought and still think dr. coates is a very skilled and very knowledgeable surgeoen. he didn't play games or beat around the bush, there wasn't any need to, by the time you see the surgeon you know exactly why you are there.
in dr. coates program you are required to attend nutritional class at one month, 3 months, 6 monthes and one year which are very helpful and very motivating. there is also support groups once a month, they aren'tmandatory but thery are a great way give and recieve tips from other post-op's and here great info on lots of other things.
Loved him. Very helpful and informative, never tried to "sell" the surgury. Answered ALL of our questions in great detail, and stressed the seriousness of the surgury. Wonderful bedside manner.
He came to the hospital on Friday and Saturday, and the staff said he was one of their favorites. He really takes time, (even at midnight) to come to the hospital for any questions/problems.
His office staff is great! Sonja is the best. She was very throrough during the pre-op information/approval process. Couldn't have expected any better.
future patients should know that he will answer ANY questions, no matter how intrusive they may seem. All I can say is "Ask Away"!
He is very firm on aftercare. Would like you to join support group and absolutely INSISTS on Post-op Care.
He has a very thourough aftercare scedule and offers inormation on support groups and post-op nutrition groups.
From a scale of 1-10...50!
For me neither the surgical competence, or bedside manner outweighs each other. I think this is why he has such an outstanding reputaion. If you mention to people that you are having the surgury, everybody asks, "Dr. Coirin is doing it, right?". Even thin folks in the medical field know about him. I went to purchase my vitamins at Target, about 40 miles away from Dr. Coirins office, and the pharmasits assistant aske me if Coirin was doing my procedure, and informed me of the vitamins and bowel cleansing that he favors. I think that says a lot for how well-known he is.
I had done business with Dr. Coates several
years ago to have spider veins injected, and
he had done different surgeries on my sister
and niece so I knew of him and liked him.
He is an excellent surgeon but you never see
him. I saw him 2 minutes prior to being wheeled into surgery and 2 minutes at discharge. Otherwise I have seen his PA's.
His office staff is very disorganized and in
desperate need of an office manager.
He is an excellent surgeon.
Be prepared for lost papers and delays with
the insurance because of this. Make copies
of everything.
Aftercare is very important to them. With
post op classes and appointments.
Yes very structured.
They were very blunt about the risks of the
surgery verbally and in writing.
Like I say, he is an excellent surgeon but
maybe a little too busy for aftercare.
Surgical competence because you won't see
much of him to know if he has a bedside manner.
Great impression of him.
He was even nicer.
Very helpful staff.
Future patients should feel free to ask him what everquestions they want to. He explaine everything to me and I had a daughter go in later with me and he explained it again.
Aftercare is very important. They want us to follow the program.
There is a structurered program.
He is upfront and honest about risks.
I would rate Dr Coirin as fantastic. First time I ever gave a Dr. a hug was at my 1 week postop checkup.
Dr. Coirin's surgical competence and bedside manner are both great.
I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Coirin. He was greata and that is sincere. I had no problems.
