DHMR Clinics Organization
My first meeting with Dr. Halmi was much different than I had expected. I was only going to gather information about the procedure from him. He doesn't do the laproscopic type of surgery, which I thought was the best way to go, so had come to him through a referal from my primary doctor. After talking with Dr. Halmi and going over the procedure with him, I felt very reassured that he was the doctor for me. He covered the risks and what to expect after the surgery. He's very caring, answers your questions clearly, and definitely wants to help you. I was surprised that he encouraged me to attend the monthly support group meetings even before my surgery to help me understand what would be happening and hear others people's stories. He also encouraged me to bring my personal support group with me (family, friends, etc.) It's important that they understand what you are undertaking also.
His staff are very nice and helpful. The nutritionist is very knowledgeable about the special needs of someone having this type of surgery and stresses the importance of following the after-care routine to ensure you optimal results from your surgery.
My only negative experience was a bruised and scraped tail bone after the surgery. I have to assume that they had trouble moving me from the operating table to the gurney. No one told me about the bruises and scrape. I had to find out on my own. My right hip kept hurting while in the hospital bed. I don't think that was Dr. Halmi's fault, since I imagine he had already left the operating room before I was moved. But it would have been nice if the hospital had started treating it prior to my saying something to them about it.
Dr. Halmi is very soft spoken but leaves you with the definite impression of confidence in his abilities. He has a very kind nature and I think that is very important for a doctor. Too many of them just don't have what it takes - personally.
His office staff is great and particularly Deanna, the nutritionist. She is extremely helpful and together with Dr. Halmi has a great plan to follow to gain the greatest success after surgery.
Not all other surgeons don't stress the importance of doing your part after surgery and have such a great plan to give you.
When I found out the cardiologist would not sign off on the surgery Dr. Halmi and Deanna were extremely understanding and reassuring. I have just waiting so long for this and want that chance for better health.
Dr. Halmi was a seemingly very kind and gentle man. He carfully described the procedure for me, and readily answered my many questions. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, but it is a very busy office. What I liked best about Dr. Halmi was his positive attitude. Afercare is very much emphasized. I would rate him A overall.
Dr Halmi is a very compassionate person who appreciates how his work is changing peoples lives and giving them hope. I got a chance to really listen to him and he is a blessed man who cares about the people he cares for. I don't think I could have chosen a better person.
My first impression of Dr. Halmi was that he was a very quiet man, he was very direct and to the point. He went over everything in the handout that he has for his patients and answered all of the questions that I had at the time. I'd done a lot of research on this prior to my going to see him so I was pretty knowlegeable. I just basically asked what HIS procedures were.
Over time, Dr. Halmi has continued to prove to me that he is a very capable and caring doctor. Even amidst the current malpractice insurance crisis he continues to be as concerned for his patients as he is himself.
What can be said about his staff. Deanna is fantastic, is very patient and very understanding.
Dr. Halmi and staff has an excellent before/after care program; his practice should be a model for all surgeon's that take on this type of surgery.
My first consultation with Dr. Halmi was a very informational visit. He answer all my questions and my husband questions too. He takes the necessary time with all his patients. Now after my surgery, I still feel he is one of the best doctors around.
His office staff is great. They take the time to answer all your questions about insurance paperwork. They took care of getting me approve thru my insurance. It only took two weeks to get approved.
I first met Dr. Halmi about 11 years ago when I was in the ER with an ovarian cyst. He was so pleasant and had a very calming effect on the situation. I did not realize till days later what his speciality was, that of a bariactic MD. I always remembered him and when I was looking into the gastric bypass surgery I immediately thought of him. I am very comfortable with him as my doctor. He is soft spoken and a man of few words, but those words are carefully chosen. He is serious about the changes in ones life after the surgery. He was straight forward concerning the risks of surgery and answered any questions that I had. I am very pleased with him and would have no problem recommending him to anyone else who might be interested in the surgery. From what I have observed his surgical competence and bedside manner are both outstanding.
My initial consultation with Dr. Halmi is scheduled for February 6. I met with Dr. Halmi today (February 6). Had to wait a little while for two reasons. First, I was so anxious and nervous that I got there half an hour early, and secondly there were a number of people waiting to see him. However, the office staff was very friendly and efficient, so the wait didn't seem quite so long. Dr. Hamli seems to be quite popular. He is a small, soft-spoken man with a gentle nature. I felt instantly at ease as soon as I met him. He is very knowledgeable about the subject of morbid obesity and answered each of my questions thoroughly and without rushing. The doctor gave me a booklet on morbid obesity and roux en y gastic bypass surgery to take with me and read. He told me to feel free to call him if I had any other questions after reading over the material in the booklet. Dr. Halmi stressed the importance of after care, making sure that the new body gets proper nutrients and vitamins to aid successful weight loss. He also stressed going to support group meetings and seeing the nutrionist. I am quite pleased with Dr. Halmi and I thank the ObesityHelp.com website for assisting me with making the right choice in finding this doctor. This website is awesome! So now all I do is wait to hear from the insurance company.
My first meeting with Dr. Halmi went very well. He came across as quiet, but competent and he put me at ease immediatly.
The Woodbridge office is small, but has a friendly staff. Lisa the receptionist greets everyone with a smile and makes you feel at home. Veronica, the clinical assistant is very nice, but somewhat reserved and quiet. Deanna is the Nutritionist and I can't say enough good things about her. She listens patiently to endless questions and makes sure you understand the answers.
Dr. Halmi describes the entire proceedure, with the help of diagrams and photos. He makes sure you understand every step and is very informative. He also answers as many questions as you have without rushing you. You can tell that he really cares about his patients and their families.
