I first met Dr Halmi during a brief pre-op interview. He used a pictoral guide to explain the surgery. He never asked me "why" I was obese; nor did I feel any condemnation from him. After I was approved, I met twice with one of his dieticians, and again once briefly with Dr. Halmi the week before surgery. He has a very quiet, gentlemanly manner. I saw him once, briefly, in hospital and he changed my pain med to one I could "stomach". I saw him again this week to have my staples removed, and again, he was gentle and quiet, willing to answer my questions. I have more post-op dietician appts and will see Dr. Halmi on a regular basis as well. I would highly recommend this surgeon to NVA folks seeking bariatric surgery.

Dr. Halmi was very nice and sincere. Answered all of my questions. The staff is wonderful and always there to answer your questions day or night. The dietian name Deanna is an angel!

My first impression of Dr. Halmi was that he was very sincere. I have only had the initial meeting prior to approval with Dr. Halmi. I haven't had enough time for my impression of him to change. The staff was decent. I was very impressed that they called both my home and office to give me the message that I was approved. The nutritionist was able to answer all my questions.

My first impression of Dr. Halmi was a good one, he explained everything that was going to happen, the booklet that he gave me has been so helpful. I had lots of questions for him and he liked the fact that I had done so much research on the subject. The Drs. staff was really nice, but havent had that much contact with them so far. There isnt anything that I can think of that I dont like about him. Dr. Halmi is right to the business at hand, but is very willing to answer any and all the questions you have. Dr. Halmi only touched on the aftercare at our first meeting, we are going to discuss that at the next meeting once I get approved. According to his booklet he has a very structured aftercare program though. He addresses the risks of surgery straight up with no holes bared. I dont feel I can really rate him yet since I have only had one visit, but on my first impression from 1-10 he was a 9 for sure, I will rate as I go along. As far as his surgical competence goes he is highly recomended by others, and I will let you know later how his bed side manner is at a later date. I personally hope that he is good at both.

Seemed very quiet and reserved. After a few visits his sense of humor showed through and he was very sweet and caring. Office staff very friendly and helpful. He never discussed surgery risks with me but did give me a handout which described all the risks and I had to sign a paper saying I am aware of the risks.

I have been researching Gastric Bypass for almost a year now and recently decided to go in to Dr. Denis Halmi (Woodbridge, Virginia) for an interview. I walked into the office and was immediately greeted by the receptionist who seemed to be very polite. I started filling out the prelimiary paperwork, but found myself taking my time, because I kept talking to the other patients in the office; everyone from the patients to the receptionists made me feel very comfortable. I met Dr. Halmi who greeted me with a nice smile which made me feel very relaxed. He started explaining the procedure and I told him I would have a list of questions to ask after he was done. He seemed very nice, but kind of quiet (So be prepared and have a list ready). Dr. Halmi seems to be a very nice and professional person, but you really need to do some homework before you go in so you know what kind of questions you want to ask. He explained the risks and benefits from the surgery. I would give him an Excellent rating for my overall evaluation of my first impression of him. There was only one issue that made me more anxious and concerned; the time it took for them to send the request for pre-approval to my insurance company. I called my insurance company several times to only be told that the doctors office did not fax any information over yet. I then called Dr. Halmi's office several times and kept asking them to send it over (They advised they faxed it over) but I told them that I was advised it was not sent yet. I ended up speaking with a lady named Maria, at Dr. Halmis office who was VERY NICE. I told her that I have spoken to my insurance company and they did not receive any paperwork yet (Either it got mis routed, lost, etc?). I then spoke to my insurance company who called the Doctors office themselves, and with the help of the office staff at Dr. Halmis office (in particular, Maria), they finally received the required information.

I have an appt with Dr. Halmi on 5-6-02
My first impression of Dr. Halmi was okay. He really overbooks his appointments, I waited 75 min. in the waiting room, which did give me the opportunity to speak with other patiens about the doctor and the procedure. When I finally got in to see the doctor, I had a number of questions. * When you go have your questions written down, I wished I would have done that. He didn't really go into the detail of risks involved, He expects you to do your homework on the procedure, the booklett he hands out is pretty basic. I felt rushed out after being in his office after about 10 min. because he got a phone call.

Dr Halmi was very nice and took time to explain the surgery. The Woodbrige office was very nice and they got me approved and surgery set within two weeks. Now I have the tests and nutritionist visits to do before my surgery which will be on July 12,2002. I am so excited. I have been waiting for this for a long time. July feels so far away. There is also a support group that they have and strongly recommend going. I will add more as time goes and I see him for other visits.

Dr Halmi was kind of quiet but seems to be very knowledgable. He didn't have any information about Duodnial Switch to share with me because he doesn't do them. I was kind of undecided between RNY and DS but I guess I will be having RNY. I had a long wait in the waiting room to get in to see him (1+ hours) and the first appointment didn't last very long. He gave me a booklet to share with my husband about the surgery and went over it. Since I had been doing lots of research on this I knew everything in the book already but it was helpful to use to get my DH up to speed. Dr Halmi told me all the risks but didn't emphasise them. He told me that he has had some patients with complications but not many. He did tell me about the Staples support club. After I left I realized that I didn't get any information from him regarding tests I will have to have or follow up I can expect from him. (His receptionist covered that with me at a later time) Perhaps he covers that in the next meeting. I feel comfortable going ahead with my surgery with Dr Halmi so I suppose that is a very high rating.
