St. Luke's Medical Center (COE) Hospital
Overall it was a very good experience. I was very concerned after reading comments about this hospital and the nursing staff however they were all very good - except for one that was on the first night after surgery She was not compasionate or caring. The ones that I really liked were Lisa, Terresa (very helpful and understanding and right there when I needed her also helped me understand some of the procedures post-op) Teresa was very good! and Darlene - Darlene was an absolute gem!
The nursing staff was very attentive friendly. However, they changed shifts sometimes as often as every 3hrs. It was impossible to keep track of who my nurse was escpecially while under narcotics. They answered the call buttons quickly but at times responded slowly. I found it embarrassing that not every department was equiped to handle obese patients. Example: the admitting waiting room had large chairs but the admitting desks where you had to give info did not. I found this situation throughout different departments in the hospital. I was very disturbed to find out the night of my surgery at 11:00pm that my spouse was not permitted to stay overnight in the room with me. This was due to the fact that I was sharing a room with another female and a male could not be there for privacy reasons. He had been helping both of us out so much with things like wet washcloths, fixing problems with beds, etc. We should have been informed of this before the surgery. Overall, I felt the hospital experience was ok.
It was mostly average as hospitals go. They had some nurses who cared about what they were doing, then there was some that didn't. My bed was very uncomfortable and sounded like it was going to break everytime you elevated it. I was left alone most of the time, but there was constant noises and problems with my roommate, that I wished they would of moved one of us. (Preferably me!)
