St. Alexius NewStart Hospital
The day after surgery my IV blew and no one could get a new one started. So I didn't get any pain meds for a long time, that was proably the worst thing.
I had a private room with a fold out chair so my husband could stay with me, I thought that was great. I thought the nurses where good. I didn't have any trouble getting them to come to my room.
I had excellent CNA's I loved Neicie, she was the best person there. She acted like she really cared about me.
I was a bit put off that my room did not have a shower (had to use the public one down the hall). The nursing staff was very understaffed and my husband did most everything for me. I also noticed that most patients and their guests were not made aware of the room down the hall with a television/oven/microwave. My husband purchased food at WalMart and stored in in the fridge for his meals. ALSO, remember to have your visitor ASK the nurse for his/her FREE meal pass daily. They get one free meal a day and according to my husband, breakfast is their best offer. GOOD LUCK!
My pre-op experience was very good at St. Alexius. Surgery and ICU care were good also. Once I was moved to my room ( a private room without asking--made it easy for my husband) the day nursing staff were very good with Jan Berra, RN being outstanding. However, the evening and night nursing staff were almost unresponsive and made me wait several times for pain medication, once for over an hour. I reported that event, plus others to the New Start staff and the hospital staff. I've experienced similar delays in other hospitals during the evening hours--am guessing they must be taking whatever they can to make up their staffs for those timeframes.
The out patient areas where all my pre op was performed was fast and great.
The floor where I was an in patient was not so great. Very dirty, cluttered, and the nurses were very busy. Several times I pushed the nurses button and noone came or answered. There was one very good nurse that attended to me.
